This is a scratchbuilt USS Wasp in 1/285th scale. This is not a museum quality model, it's a wargaming piece for modern wargaming in 1/285th scale (AKA 6mm),,, so lots of very small delicate details are left off. The idea was just to produce some that "looked the part" and was accurate as far as dimensions.
A few of it's cool details are removable aircraft deck that reveals a removable hangar deck that reveals the main vehicle deck. Also the main vehicle deck is lighted with LEDs and fiber optics.
In the final photos you will see that I also built an LHD-4 USS Boxer, this was a commission for a customer.

Wow! Impressive!
:thumbs_up_1:
What's with the clear acrylic? Is it laser-cut or something? And what filler did you use to fill the flare of the bow?

Thanks,

Thanks Andrex,

Yes, it's mostly 1/16" Acrylic that I laser cut. I really like working with acrylic,,, so that's what I use. The bow was filled with foam and then rough shaped and then coated with regular body filler (Bondo) and shaped to the final shape. For the second model I made a mold of the first model's bow and then made the second bow out of fiberglass ... this was to avoid having to shape it again all over from scratch.

If that was 3D printed, you might ought to have given it a Bestine soak prior to painting to remove the wax.

The superstructure was 3D printed and then thoroughly cleaned and then I made an RTV rubber mold of it and then cast the parts in resin.

I've been a professional model maker for 30 years ... this is not my first rodeo :cool_2:
