1/700 Academy Missouri vs Tamiya

So, is the new Academy Missouri kit the "gold standard" now or is the Tamiya kit still just as good (for those that don't care about the full hull)?

Isn't there's Meng Missouri about to be released? Looks like the Academy kit still features no/very little bulkhead detail on the superstructure, like the Tamiya Iowa class kits. Based on what I can glean from the renderings released by Meng, their kit just might have the detail I have been waiting for.

Not only that but I read somewhere that Meng releases kits with PE that meant to fit said kit, i.e. no need to cut or adjust things. You assemble it as is, PE is provided where plastic is not good enough, so its an advanced kit but fits this forum target audience perefectly. No need to cut masts down to put brass rods, or build a bridge out of PE. ALl is pre-planned.

I for one cant wait for PoW and Ajax from Flyhawk! If they do as good as with other kits it will be the one to have, just the right level of detail and not terribly over complicated.

Can't find anything regarding the Meng kit's potential PE, but the Academy one does have a "modeler's" edition with pre-fitted PE:

If the PE included bulkhead details for the superstructure, then this would be a complete kit.

Isn't Meng mainly into snap-fit (albeit well detailed) kits? Anyway, I understand a lot of people would be more excited about something with tailored comprehensive PE, but that doesn't make or break a kit for me. But it seems Academy haven't completely out-shone Tamiya on this one anyway, other than being full hull... and it seems quite a bit cheaper.

I have the modeller's edition of Academy's Missouri. It does have PE but not the bulk heads. All in all the model is very nice IMHO, it has a couple of details that Tamiya missed but is also slightly softer in other spots, thickness of the walls around the 40mm tubs for example. It does have a full hull and correct left/right screws. Parts at large part can be mixed/swapped with Tamiya and Steve's (modelmonkey) New Jersey round bridge fits like a glove. Now looking fwd to the Meng offering. I have their Lexington and that one is quite nice at first glance.

I do not know the Meng and Academy kits. However the Academy review seems very interesting. I built the Tamiya kit with Voyager Models photoetched, but I think the Tamiya kit has been disappointing for me. It is expensive compared to the expected quality and lacks a large number of details. The quality / price ratio of Tamiya in 1/700 is excessive.

None of the two is fast food nor is any of them an evening dinner. The Academy (modelers edeition) offers the biggest bang for the buck right now. I am looking fwd to the MENG one hoping to see bulk heads with details. An I am hoping for Dragon to come to the rescue in 1/350 and do one in the quality of their Gearing/Scharnhost/Independence kits...
