I also got the kit and started it and made some basic work on the hull.
Yes it is a nice kit. fit is so far good. I also like the supplied PE from Aoshima, it has all the neccessary parts.
Of course I will use some extra pe from generic sets. Only letdown, as Dan said are the way to thick masts and booms.
And of course that only one plane is supplied. I'm not sure, but beside the Fujimi clear Jakes, there are none as Aftermarket Jakes available?

Greetings Christian

I have just corrected a "hogged" Hayasui hull for a fellow modeler. This was a simple "fix" compared to several DD hulls which had the opposite problem. Anyone with a Hayasui hull that needs help send a PM and I will provide the method I used.

The basic technique will be found in "Tips and Tricks" under "Yamashita 1/700 Fubuki Hull Fixed (Hogging)" posted Nov. 2, 2015.

Added steps and cautions:

I used a temperature of 160 F and a 4-5 min soak. At the end of the soak I quenched the cooled assembly in cold tap water. I believe this will lock in the reshaped hull before the hull is removed from the clamped support.

I used the metal weight to distribute pressure over the hull length.

Ignore the shadows the hull is "dead flat".

I was looking into buying the kit, but I'm a little confused by the offerings. There's the base kit, the Super Detail kit, and then the kit with the Bluefish submarines. On top of that, there is a separate "Detail Up" set of two photo etch frets and a wooden deck.

I'm not as interested in the submarine kit, but does anyone know if the Detail Up set is already included in the Super Detail kit? Or is only one of the PE frets included in that kit? I'd like to fully detail the model, but don't want to buy duplicates, etc.

Thank you in advance!

I agree it's a little confusing. I believe the Super detail kit contains the super PE fret. You could play it safe and buy the base kit and separate super PE fret - my base kit did not come with any smaller partial PE fret.

Thanks, it is a bit confusing. The vendors seem to post pictures of the box cover which suggest that the detail sets are included, but my guess is that if you can read Japanese, you'd realize that the cover is just indicating that there is a detail set available. I ran into similar questions when looking at the Hasegawa Akagi 1:350.

Thanks again!

This is why I like looking on Hobby Search - they usually have scans of the kit contents so you can see what's actually included in the different versions.

Here's their page of the Hayasui SD kit: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10371473

It clearly contains nowhere near the same amount of parts as the separate PE set: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10371477

The larger, separate set includes the catapults and propellers that are in the SD kit, so you can safely buy the standard, plastic-only kit and the separate PE set without worrying about missing anything.

Thanks Timmy - that's what I ended up doing.

Reigels, I found one here - hopefully it's a legit site, but it takes PayPal which provides some protection:

Just FYI, the SD kit is basically the original kit (not the Anime one) and a small PE set. The Aoshima's upgrade set (01213) is much larger and completely supersedes the SD PE set.
