Do we have any idea what time frame this kit is going to depict? Or how hard it would be to convert to CVA-19 in 1972? (Without seeing the kit I know this is going to be generalized differences between the two ships).

I'm not sure. I've not read anything about a specific time frame. I'm sure there might be someone on the board who knows more about the kit. But here is what Navsource.org says about the USS Intrepid...

"SCB 125 angled deck modernization at New York Navy 9/1956 to 2 May 1957. Redesignated as an ASW carrier (CVS 11) 31 Mar 1962. FRAM II life extension 3/1965 to 10/1965. Operated as light attack carrier with CVS designation off Vietnam. Decommissioned to reserve, 15 March 1974; was last CVS in service."

So sometime between 1957-1974. But, if I had to guess probably between 1965-1974 would be what the kit represents...

My hunch - not gospel, mind you, but only an educated guess - is we'll get Intrepid in final/current configuration, which means the stem anchor and other late/final-fit characteristics. I'm basing that hunch on her final/current configuration being the easiest to research, since that's the basis for her as museum ship. (I'm hoping they spare us the alterations made to the ship for museum use, though! I could do without that metal stairwell from the flight deck to the bridge, not to mention the glassed-in suites under the fantail.)

I imagine it probably won't be that difficult to convert to Hancock - the basic configuration will be correct, of course, but the differences between ships will be what drives you around the bend! (she wrote, aiming to build Ticonderoga in 1972).

Over 1000 parts
Over 30" long
Includes display stand with name plate
Full hangar deck with positionable elevators
5 different aircraft & helicopters included: A-4, F-8, EA-1F, EA-1B, and UH-2B
4 photo-etched sheets are also included

This list of features were yanked right off the MRC site. Four seat Skyraiders seems to suggest Vietnam era.....

Still trying to get my head around that $329.98 MSRP, no doubt will be discounted by some retailers, perhaps substantially, but still...

I think this one will be an exception to build by me ... because hurray! 1 nice useable "Essex late" ... and in wanted scale of 1/350 and not again and again a pretty ship only in 1/700 as so often! Hurray!

Great news!
I'm a bit worried about the price but I will find a way.

I hope I can put Phantoms on her, I love F-4s.

I agree that I was a little shocked at the price tag as well...

If I recall correctly, unfortunately, the Essex's never operated F-4's. Somethign to do with the weight of the phantoms being too much for the cats or something.

Due to the lower height of the flight deck they couldn't safely cat newer aircraft, (F-4's, A-6's and A-7's) when they were carrying a combat load.

Thanks sgtryan13. I will have to make do with Crusaders.
