The "damage" so clearly evident on Tetra's 1/700 scale stainless steel flight deck is not damage at all. It is the result of extensive relief etching. Extensive surface etching on one side only causes the sheet metal to bow towards the relief etched side. You'll note that the areas with no relief etching on one side are straight.

It's not easy to control this effect during the etching process; some etchers seem to be able to prevent it, others can't. Fixing the problem on a part this large will be very difficult. It may require special tools and methods I'm currently unaware of.

Thx, Loren. I have no doubt that you are correct about the process and its impa impact on the metal. In this case, the deck is really bent and needs to be flattened.
