Spotted (and ordered!) on Freetime's website: 1/700 Niko HMS Albatross Seaplane Tender

I wasn't even aware this ship existed before seeing the model. It's so odd looking, though, that I had to order it (and hope someone does a 1/350 kit someday)

Has anyone else noticed that Combrig's site has been updated, and that added to their 'coming soon' list are 1:700 versions of HMS Indefatigable and HMAS Australia, in addition to their previously announced HMS New Zealand. The whole class available at last. :thumbs_up_1:

Hi,

More good news for the 1/700 scale union. HMS Athene is out from Niko and HP models has finally updated their news site with many new models, I got the swedish gotland yesterday and will order the 1958 version of HMS Victorius later from them.

Thanks

This should be a kit of the armoured cruisers Yingyuan (King Yuan)/Laiyuan (Lai Yuan), which were built by Vulcan in Stettin in 1887 and were both sunk at Yalu in 1894.

Before ordering, you could look at the quality of this kit by Fairy Kikaku:

I remember seeing a Wasp like that, with the hull in three pieces, and molded in a similar blue resin. (shudder)

Why use a multi-part hull for a model of a tiny ship in a tiny scale? And water-line, even?

I would think that the only reason not to mold this in one piece would be to minimize warpage. But these pieces would be so small, even if molded as a one-piece hull. Strange.

Les -

The masters for Fairy Kikaku are created on a 3D printer from CAD, and thus are limited by the size of the print surface. I bought a couple of these a few months ago, and unfortunately the resin work isn't up to the same standard as the computer work (bubbles, lots of clean up, etc.) It would have been much better if they had assembled the printed masters into complete master hulls once before casting resin, rather than having hundreds of customers need to complete the task.

Mine went straight to eBay, where I more or less broke even on the deal.

Glad to have seen them... Wouldn't buy again.

Yeah, I also sneak around the niko page for this. What a cool boat. Fit's into my ODD Ship Collection.

That is a "cool boat"!

I may be interested in getting it if it is offered in 1/350. Particularly if it is full-hull.
