tko24 wrote:I know I asked on Steel Navy. But I don't see USS Salem/Newport News on the list for Combrig releases. It's been listed as "coming soon" for over 5 years. I've been waiting patiently for it. I have the 1/700 ISW version, but it's so rough and full of broken parts and bits I haven't even attempted starting it.
Talked to the guy responsible for it at Combrig - he said that the masters are ready but they lost a 3D model that was used to create them, so they are having a hard time with instructions, but they are working on them. Realistically they should release it around New Year.

Nice to finally see this in kit form - and in 1/350 too!

I know that this is my first time actually replying here, but thanks for that Vladimir. I hope it is somewhat cheaper than the ISW kit. Speaking of which...

As a companion to the recently released 1/700 scale Poltava class Russian pre-dreadnoughts we are releasing their 1/350th scale versions. As usual they are done from the 3D computer models using CNC machines. They are scheduled to be released in November 2010.

I see people have talked about the Salem kits that are already out there.

Has anyone heard anything about the Niko USS Newport News (CA-148)? The single photo they had of it looked really, really nice.

I am very interested in it.

Newport News looks nice. However keep in mind the kit looks to be rendering her in her post '61-'62 modernized configuration. It may be hard to backdate her to match any of the other ships in the class unless it comes with optional parts.
Best Regards

That's the cool thing about this kit! There are other ones out there backdated, but none upadated. This one is cool!

Gopher, I would imagine this would probably be just as much as the other ones like USS Canberra, USS Worcester, etc. They are kind of pricy, but I hear they are wonderful.

I built the Niko Coontz and it is one of the best kits I have ever built. It went together with the ease of a plastic kit and the mold was very clean! I have 5 other NIKO post war cruiser kits and they seem to be just as good. :thumbs_up_1:

I would imagine that Newport News will be too! :woo_hoo:

That's really good to hear. One of the things that has kept me away from the resin kits so far is...I don't really know how to build them yet.

However, Newport News looks pretty sweet, and she is a subject I would really, really like to model.

By the way, L'Arsenal makes 1/700 weapon accessories, right?

You should get one of the cheaper resin kits and give it a try. If it gets to be too much, you have not lost too much.

You can get the JAG 1/700 scale Forrest Sherman or a couple of their other DD offerings for around $40. Not too much more than a good plastic kit and I tihnk that you will really like the results that you get. I think that Niko has some WWII DD's at around that price as well.

I would encourage you to give it a shot!! :thumbs_up_1:

Hello,

i have seen the pic of the Niko USS Newport News for the first time and i 'm happy to hear that niko wiil make them :thumbs_up_1: but where you have found this Pic "navydavesof".??
ON the website of Niko is no word about this kit! It would be a pleasure if Niko will make the Newport in this configuration. I have alo heard about the Combrig plans but i think that they will make the early USS Salem of the class like ISW ! and not the later version of the Newport News.

I have also build the old JSP Newport News and i hope that this pic shows not her :heh: The quality of the pic is poor so that is not clear for me.

Normally Bill Bruner will anounced news about Niko kits and up to now i have heard or read nothing from him about this kit.

I hope Niko will make her ..all of her other US cruiser are very nice kits! :thumbs_up_1:

Best regards

Chris
