I couldn't find much info about HMS Nelson and Rodney, so let's start a new thread.

Were there external differences between these two ships?

If I remember correctly the two ships had difference in the main superstructure. Also Rodney carried a catapult and Nelson did not. I'm at work currently so if I made a mistake please feel free to correct me. I'm sure there are loads of other differences but that's what comes to my mind presently.

And does someone have some painting or camouflage reference for the Nelson when she carried a disruptive pattern? I found some pictures on the internet but they are not the best quality and they don't show every areas.

Cheers :wave_1:

Yes that would be very helpful for me too.

I've got the Airfix Nelson, but would like to do her as the Rodney in that disruptive camouflage, if the conversion would not be too difficult. The other option would be to do the Nelson in camouflage, but I'd need better references for that too.

Rodney had a catapult, which was removed somewhere during 1942 or 1943, if I´m not mistaken...

Laurence,

Which ship is that?? Nelson or Rodney? I'm at work currently and I don't have my reference pictures with me... Did you colorize the photo or did you find the Jack-pot?? :cool_2:

Hum, might have been earlier since I don't recall that she did have one catapult during the Hunt for Bismarck.

One tricky think about that is Rodney & Nelson did not have their unique torpedo defence system filled with water in peacetime, this is why on photos they always appear to have a massive freeboard, more than they had in WW2.

This will distort the figure somewhat as she will always sit higher out of the water than she was designed to before the war.

Hallo Enki, :wave_1:

According the book British Battleships of WW II by Allan Raven & John Roberts , Rodney was longer and wider:
Rodney 710' 2 1/2 '' oa, 660' 1/8 '' pp , beam 106' 11/16''
Nelson 710' ao , 660' pp , beam 106'

Here are some drawings from AJ Press' book Nelson and Rodney

Nelson above with Rodney below , camo used in 1942. Sorry for the unclear photo's

the pic that i have shows rodney (but could be nelson) in camo, and says dated 41/42. Think i have the size of the stones used in the buliding of rosyth so the rest should be just maths as the top of the ship is about lavel with the main plate of the hammer head (ie the turn table part)

:thumbs_up_1: very cool! How did you make the "tires" that are mounted along side of the tug?
