Hi Guys, The rear mast is made up of 3 stepping sectons to give more taper, I then soldiered on the mast stays, this is solid brass wire.

I then drilled the deck, 1 large hole for the mast ,2 for the stays.

Mast placed in position to check the angel.

I then fit the first part of what I think is a radio entenna.

Then I drilled through the mast and fit the second part.

Hi Guys, It was a nice day on sunday so I took off all the parts that are loose on the ship and put them out in the sun.

All parts viewed from a diffent angel.

In my shed, (drydock)

I turned the hull over and masked the prop shafts and thread for the props, I cleaned the hull down with some turpintine ( paint thinners).
I mixed my WEM paint , 2 tins of paint to 1/2 tin of thinners.
The compresser on 25lbs pressure, the paint went on a treat, a few coats at a time.

Viewed from above, this was left for a few hours to dry, CIC had a few jobs for me to do,

Having turned the model the right way up, I mark off the waterline and masked of the anti fouling red, next I hand painted the 5N blue , using a soft brissel brush.

3 photo,s taken from different angels.

The plating is still showing up quite nicely.

The painting goes on, I masked the 5H blue and painted two coats of 5N light blue grey, this runs horizontal with the lower deck, this is Mod 22.

A similar photo to the first but I moved the sheet out a little to let you see both masts clearer.

The model turned round to show Starboard side, I masked it off and painted the 5H .

The masking taken off showing the two colours , there is still the anti fouling Black to go on at this point.

A bow shot, the plating is showing up very nicely.

I masked off the blue and painted the 5H onthe hull, also painted the davits 5H,

Hi Guys, I have started the superstructure, the first two pictures the colour looks more grey in the light.

I sprayed the forward superstructure, this still needs a second spray, the colour looks right in this picture, I also sprayed the first stack.

Overall view of the model, colours all look correct in the light.

Two close up,s, you can see where she still needs a little more paint.

Hi Guys, I have masked off for the water line anti fouling.

Hi Guys, I started painting the decks yesterday, gave the rear superstructure two coats of 20B but with a little light grey added to lighten them a little, the deck in the photo,s look light, I can see the dark walkways esily.

I can still see the deck plating joins,

Viewed from the bow, note how the shade changes as it goes to the stern, this is down to light at this time of the year,

Everything back in place, a nice contrast between the deck and superstructure,s.

Hi Guys, Another painting day, I started by putting a second coat of paint on the decks, I am very pleased with the results, deck plating still showing nicely.
I also painted the walkways blue.

Viewed from the bow.

Next I painted the 5H on the walkways and the stantions, also on the double set of angeled ladders.

The rear superstructure was put back in place, I painted 5 small fittings for this deck, all upper surfaces painted B20.

The second smokestack superstructure was painted 5H and again decks B20.

The torpedo tubes were put back in place, a lot of the work has been hand painted.

Hi Guys , The foreward superstructure put back in place.

Both stacks back in place, both have been given a second coat of 5H, the tops have been painted Matt Black.

Mid ships, superstructure still needs second coat of paint.

Mid ships again, I gave the stucture a second coat, all decks had first coat of 20B.

Hi Ron I agree . It's the innocuous bits that seem to bring the model to life. small RU lockers especially with their own detail added. Hose reels , pained red stand out . There's so much that can be added to any model. In fact you could go on for ever, so were do you draw the line. Some times I think intensive detailing on working models can produce it's own problems. But I can't resist putting those little bits in place. Great job Ron your paint work is transforming the model .

Hi Guys, More painting, quite a few over head shots for REID.

All the decks and different levels have had 2 coats of paint.

Forward turret base painted and placed in position.

Turrets in place but not fixed, first coat of 5H and 20 B.

Lower lever Bow view.

Stern view.

Over head view.

Close up, all air vents painted and placed in position.

Slight close up of turrets, sorry for very little change in the model but it will give you a better idea of what is involved in painting a large model.

Hi Guys, You can not please everyone all the time,

Continuing on with the painting.

Everything now has had 2 coats of paint, you my see I have painted the canvas doggers blue.

Hi Ron Interesting use of B/W compared with colour contrasted with the B/W pictures of the real ship. Any one got any colour photos of Moffett?

Hi Guys, Just a small update, I am very busy keeping the CIC happy with redecorating the inside of the house, a 10 year refit,

I have started on what we call the breakwater on the bow, I cut two sheet plates of litho to shape and glued them together.

Later I bent it to shape and cut out the small section at the ends and in the safety netting.

Then I cut out 12 bracing sections and glued them in place on the breakwater, the whole section is not fitted to the deck yet, will do this after painting.

Made the small hatch out of block timber and covered in litho, and added my wheel.

Hi Guys, Just a little more, first to answer JB question, there are three layers in the breakwater, the original pattern is in the middle , this was to beaf up the breakwater so I could fit the top section on easier.

The breakwater was layed upside down on some lithoplate and marked around,the top section was then cut out and glued in place, when set, hand painted, it is not glued in place yet.

The anchore capstan was made out of a round piece of plastic pipe, top, middle and bottom sections made from slightly larger pipe, the base is ply with litho covering.

The hatch on the stern is made from a small piece of timber ,with litho wrapped around, a hinge open top with a brass rod support, not glued in position.

Hi Guys, Just a little work to keep the build going,

Floater net baskets, made from my round plastic pipe, cut down the middle and heated to open it at the top, my mesh cut to size and glued inside.

This basket stands in a rack near the stern, so I have drilled a piece of timber with four holes the length and width.

I have cut and bent 2 side,s to shape from brass rod.

I have placed the sections in the holes and soldered two cross sections.

I had not painted it at this point, I photo shopped in the colour to show you a close up.
