Liquid Mask Help

Post by ajkochev »

I'd like some advise on using liquid mask. I'm going to be masking the already painted wood deck of a battleship to airbrush the superstructure. Any advise on using the stuff would be helpful as I've never used the stuff before. Also, am I doing this in the right order? Should I have painted the superstructure first, masked it then done the wood deck.

I use 2 different Liquid Masks, Hobbico Master Mask and Bob Loverly Masking film.

I find the Loverly Film a little thin and the Hobbico quite thick so I mix them together in a old Hobbico plastic container.

I still apply 2 coats making sure to leave a few extra thick globs here and there to poke with a blade to start removal later. Peel slowly so as not to leave a lot of little patches but if you do find residue wipe gentlely with a damp cloth or tissue.

Goo Gone works to remove lingering mini-glops as well...

I use Microscale Micro-Mask. it works well, has a very good adherence and is easy to remove with water (I bather a skyhawk to remove the mask last week).

What to paint first ? Well I would say the lighter color. Because if you paint the darker one first, you'll have to add more light paint in order to cover it.

Hi,

I use artist's masking fluid, Windsor and Newton if I can get it. I paint it on using a fine brush, leave it to dry, airbrush, and rub it off with a flat brush. You still need to touch up, but it beats masking tape, and the paint does not lift.

Best Wishes,

Guest.
