As I've just about finished my Liberty Ship/Fletcher diorama, I've begun construction of my next project (along with my New Jersey project as I like to have 2 on the go at once so I don't get bored).

Entitled 'Calm Before the Storm', its going to depict the IJN Yukikaze at dockside in Saipan prior to the Battle of Midway. Construction of the dock and water base has started:

After months of no progress, I'm finally getting some work done on the diorama - pics below show the current progress:

With the obvious exception of the Yukikaze, everything is scratch built with styrene sheet and rod.

Couple of progress pics of the work on the yard crane. PE is cut mainly from the WEM Hornet Interior Fittings set:

More update pics below.

More details added to the crane and construction of the dockside buildings as begun with the basic shells being constructed. Some of the opening aren't perfectly cut but this will be sorted out later.

Loads more to do - I'll try and get a couple of pics of the whole thing to give you an idea of how it's all fitting together.

Just had an absolute disaster - I was spraying the crane tower when it fell to floor in an explosion of PE.

All the girders, rails and the ladder tower in the centre broke off :mad_1:

Deep breath, count to 10 etc....

I feel you John, that was one nice looking crane. I think counting from 1 to 10 won't do much. I'm sure you'll fix it in no time

A couple of progress pics:

First, the right hand most building which is currently being painted and weathered. It also shows one of the superb GMC trucks from L'Arsenal (thanks Jacques)

View from the left hand side of the diorama showing the reconstructed and painted crane tower.

And finally, the shell of the building at the centre of the diorama.

Indeed, although I figure that the chances of someone producing Japanese trucks in 1/350th is somewhat slim

Lets just assume they are using 'captured' trucks...
