This seems like a good opportunity to start a Fuso/Yamishiro class thread (which I didn't see after a quick search), so I've renamed this post and moved into the CASF forum.

Hi Paulo, yes the 25's were installed in 38, I checked the drawings against the 35 drawings and the gun tubs are much biger around the tower in the 38 drawing indicating two mounts as opposed to 1 mount in 35.
Please let me know if during the build you have any specific questions relating to the ship, I cant think of anything at the moment, and I'm sure questions will arise while you are building it, or you could look at jeff Lin's stunning build of the Yamishiro, as far as I know the main differences between the sisters was in the pagoda shape, Fuso's was different to Yamishiro's, though the exact difference escapes me.
Regards.
Bill.
Another very major difference is the third 14" turret from the front is trained to the front on Fuso, and to the rear on the Yamashiro when they are in their neutral positions.

Hi Bill,
Yes, they have a different third turret arrangement. These middle turrets did not work well and a new layout was adopted in the next two battleships - Ise and Hyuga. By the way, these two are on my list. Their conversion to seaplane carriers made them unique. Plan to build one of them before and after the conversion. These IJN battleships are really beautiful!!!
Going back to the 1938 Fuso, I browsed through several models in the web and found another puzzle, this time concerning the position of the double 25mm AAs around the funnel. The original pair is clear - in front of the funnel, low on both sides of the two front searchlight platforms. The question concerns the second pair. Some models show them on elevated platforms on both funnel sides and other show them on additional platforms, at the same level of the original 25mm pairs, in line with the searchlight platform at the back of the funnel. Seems to me that the second option is the right one, but will appreciate yr comments on this.
Best regards,
Paulo Roberto

Hello again mate, the rear most pair of 25's are on platforms at the base of the search light tower, but slightly lower than the front pair.paulors wrote:Hi Bill,

BTW, I check HLJ's prices of the kits, both are $22.67 US or 39.22 Brazil reais, with shipping via SAL at $8.55, US and 14.78 Brazil, is this better for you ?
Regards.
Bill.

Hi Lars,
Many thanks your message. It is a pleasure to be in touch with you. Yes, I already made notice of your site and your superb Fuso. Since I am sticking with the 1938 version of this very interesting battleship, your photos became one of my main reference sources. A super model and very well photographed. One thing that I liked very much is the position of the main turrets, with diferent barrel elevation in each one and all turned to provide a starboard broadside. Very nice!!!!

Concerning HLJ, these prices are better and will study this new option. Thanks!! The kit I mentioned earlier was the one below, that seems to be the same with an added PE set:

Ise/Fuso 1/700
Well I want to make a one of those battleships in 1/700. I already have Yamashiro and Huyga from Aoshima and Hasegawa.
But after the completion of those two Im greatly disappointed by Hasegawa's Ise class Battleships. Mainly cause of the luck of detail in the Pagoda, a such distinctive feature of Japanese battleships in during WWII. Dont ou find ? Just compare it with one of the Fuso class from Aoshima and you will understand. Aoshima's -now can be safely said- made the best Japanese battleship in 1/700, the 2 Fuso class. But still there is some details - crucials- that need attention. The bridge of Yamashiro is not for 1944 period as Aoshima suggest to make it. Same with Fuso, and of course not only with Aoshima but with all Japanese companies when they "give" you a post 1942 ship No single 25 mm guns! and they are tons of them in late war Fuso class battleships (Lets not talk about the total absence of single AA in Tamiya's Yamato).
Anyway I just wanted your opinion, when you compare all the new tooled Japanese battleships in 1/700, whats the best(detail, price e.t.c.) ? You know my opinion, the Fuso class battleships from Aoshima.

Re: Ise/Fuso 1/700
Sounds like you built the older Hyuga kit from Hasegawa. Ise and Hyuga were retooled and released in both the original BB version as well as the BB/CV refit a few years ago, and these kits are just as detailed as the other recent retooled kits like Aoshima's Fuso.

No, I mean the new ones. Still, -at least the Pagoda lucks- the wealth of detail that Aoshima offers to the (new retooled) Fuso class battleships.

Re: Ise/Fuso 1/700
Have you tried a resin kit yet? I know that they are expensive but I recently got the Loose Cannon Colorado and it is quite detailed! I have read that the Hi Mold IJN ships are pretty good and might meet your needs. I seem to recall that there is a Hi Mold Nagato posted in the Gallery that you may want to look at. Pacific Front Hobbies has a Fuso and a Yamashiro listed.
Just a thought.

Strange it may sound but Aoshima's Fuso class battleships are better than Hi Mold's, I know that cause I have Yamashiro from Hi Mold. Aoshima's got better detail in Pagoda and better detail of the hull. But Hi Mold makes a superb Nagato, cause I have one and compared with Mutsu that I own from Aooshima is far better.

Re: Ise/Fuso 1/700
I can't speak for the accuracy of the kits in question - I haven't done that much research into them yet - but I'd say the Aoshima kit has nicer detail. I started the Hyuga, but was turned off by fit issues and the way Hasegawa puts a seam right down the middle of a section of deck. Which is more problematic with the way they replicate the planking - which is raised, not engraved like Trumpeter does. That makes it harder to fix the seams and repair the damage to the deck. There are also - IMO - fit issues where the casement guns join the hull...another nightmare area to fill and sand. Needless to say, this kit went back in the box for now.

Re: Ise/Fuso 1/700
Well to be honest, I dont mind the hull details (of Ise class from Hasegawa), but I care a lot about the detail in the Pagoda era, thats what attracts "the eyes" in a Japanese battleship from the mid/late 30's and onwards. The "details" are almost "cubic" compared with the amazing details of Aoshima's Fuso class and Im still speaking about the pagoda era. Just amazing, best Japanese battleships in 1/700 in plastic.
At least Hasegawa can feel proud about the recent work on the four Myoko's and the Aoba and Furutaka class Heavy Cruisers. Amazing plastic Heavy Cruiser in 1/700 top notch, the best you sample of japanese Heavy Cruisers in the plastic model market. Better than the Takaos from Skywave and Aoshima and Tamiya's Mogami's.
