There are also plenty of surplus pedestal mounted binoculars that can be used on other IJN ships.

BTW, don't go for the superdetail PE set No. 3. It appears to offer a few nice details, but certainly not commensurate with it's $100+ price. It offers about 1/5 as much as Lion Roar would offer in one of its superdetail sets for about the same amount of money. The 16" metal barrels that comes with it is like all metal barrels an improvement on plastic, but if I were to get picky on account of price, I would say it is about as good as Lion Roar's replacement barrels, but not nearly as finely made or accurately detailed as what Fukuya would offer. I make these comparisons because I am willing to bet both Fukuya and Lion Roar is champing at the bits to stomp Hasagawa's rediculously overprices PE accessory into the ground.

This was posted in the main forum, I added here as well, since it's specific to Nagato:
skuki wrote:Hi, I need help.

I do have enough refrence on nagato, but somehow I do not have any picture of this area:

So, I would be most grateful if anyone has some reference pictures and is willing to share.

Also, how exactly did awning stanchions look like on Nagato?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks
Martin

What specifically are you looking for? I have a couple of photos showing portions of this area, they are form IJN Warship Photo File 1: Yamato, Musashi, Nagato & Mutsu.

Hello All: I thought I would wait until Hasegawa releases the Mutsu. By that time, the hull problem hopefully would be fixed. Today, my hobby shop called me to tell that it just received its first Nagato. I came, I saw, and I was conquered! The details were so fine and crisp that I could not resist, so I bought it as a Christmas present to myself.

If I remember correctly, "Mutsu" means "Morning Mist". What does "Nagato" mean? It is composed of two "Kanzi" words derived from Chinese. One of them means "Gate", but I don't know the meaning of the other. Maybe An Chu or some Chinese/Japanese reading modeler would know.

If translated from Chinese, it literally means "Long door/gate".

Thanks, Timmy. Do you know why it was named so? "Long door/gate" does not really sound martial or poetic.

A 5-foot long, beautiful model of the Nagato was just sold on eBay for $3,227.77

both Nagato and mutzu were named after prefectures in Japan. Dissecting the names of the prefecture into their component characters creates a misleading impression of Japanese warship naming practices.
An analogy of this type name drilling would be for some from a non-English speaking country to drill down on the name USS Virginia and conclude that she was named for virgins.

In addition, the same characters/phrases in Chinese and Japanese may have different connotations/meanings, both as seperate characters, or strung-together phrases.

Are there any links with more detailed pictures or reviews even better.

Does anyone knows how thick is that?

Hi Skuki: How far are you now in the building of the Nagato? Are you still very happy with the Hasegawa kit? Is there any seams in the plastic kit that cannot be fixed? Do we need those expensive wooden decks to hide any plastic deck seam? Any new photo? Happy modeling!

i would imagine those decks suffer the same problme as the Nautilus ones, i.e Out of scale wood grain effect. Hope i'm wrong though

The main problem with the deck of the original kit is the planks are grossly overscale. The wood deck might make an excellent (but expensive) template for cutting your own deck out of evergreen styrene siding sheets to better simulate the real width of deck planks.

High

I don't think it is worth to buy that wood deck for Nagato, but I am considering to buy it for Yamato.

No problems with the hase kit so far (if I exclude filling the lines at the hull  )

The deck is completely finished, I'll post some pictures soon.

Cheers !!

I would go for the Yamato deck, but for the fact that I backdated the kit to 1941 so it wouldn't fit the superstructure anymore.
