Hi Torpedo there are a number of these type of "stoppers" generally referred
to as cable stoppers. I would hazzard a guess and say that the one on your
drawing is a "Blake Slip" Which is more general purpose and found on all
types of warships operating anchor cables. Its main function is to act as a
"preventer" when the ship lies to anchor . and is a means of holding the
cable just before letting go the anchor.

Thanks Dave for the excellent drawing.

Desron: I found out in the meantime, that the little wheel was used to flood the amunition chambers below - interesting, isn't it? But your explanation makes sense too. I will check what is underneath in the room. If it's a tube, it's probably to flood.

Peter, Du lebst!!!

Glad to read from your side. But it sounded like a nice idea. Ok, Ok, the remote for the capstans is reasonable...

When do we read more from your builds?

It is really amazing how information can be pooled in those forums! I started the same thread in two german forums as well and there were soon fantastic drawings and explanations. So I will post the links here too:

http://www.u-boot-net.de/phpBB/viewtopi ... 664#p16664

http://forum-marinearchiv.de/smf/index. ... w.html#new

Even if you don't speak german, you find interesting pictures there!!!

P.S. Of course I build already the small gauge/wheel with the pivot - pictures will follow.

Both these subjects could have been found on P 8 and P 9 in the second part of my IRON DUKE build, how to build the steam valves, also the chains. :heh: :heh:

Desron: It's definetely true - a remote/or remote to control the capstans, not to flood!

@all: I apologize, that the pictures in the other forums are not visible for guests - I can't help it though.

Thanks a lot for your help identifying the details. No I built the handwhell to block the capstans and glued it on the deck:

Here beside the gun pivot

Furthermore I made a "mushroom-shaped" vent and glued it on the foredeck too. (not visible on the pic above)

Then I made the rails like I did them on the bridge. First put the stands on the wire, then glue them to the deck and solder them to fix all.

Image

Always controlling the angles...

Image

I use soldering paste (the grey drops) and then zzzzzzhhhh fix it with the hot soldering needle.
Image

Finished!
Image

Then I corrected a fault. I couldn't see on the plan what it was exactly and built a small door, but Peter Lienau (ingura) told me, that it was an ammunition hatch. A pic from the library of Stuttgart prooved that:

Image

So I built it that way and added a sort of support in the middle, as I would identify it on the picture...

Image

Unfortunately not sharp, so here once again.

Image

Now there is only a small david, the torpedo aiming device and a signal-ring to show to the following boats where to go missing...

Hallo Uli ,

nice update here , I do the soldering the same way as you do , with such "lötpaste" , a lot easier than using soldering wire , while I sometimes use both though , paste on the part I have so solder , and a little tin/lead on the soldering iron .

Regards ,

Laurent

Morning Torpedo,

Your Torpedoboot B-110 is coming on in fine style. I was going to ask you about the circular thing on the railings was but you
saild what it was the signalling ring. To show my ignorance, just how did it work? You missed my query in the 'Events & Shows' section re your Kaiserliche Marine Society. Will you be at Dortmund in April? If so Dave Woolley and I are going to be two very happy little boys (again).

I can't tell you if I will be at the show in Dortmund, but let me consider a few days more.

The ring is in fact a device to show the rudder position. On larger german ships were cones in red/green to show the following ship the rudder position. The Torpedoboats were maneuvering often at nighttime, so they had those rings with lamps to show the rudder to the following boat.

I am actually researching the look of the hatchways (see the red arrows). They must have been retractable when seagoing. Has anybody pictures of those on other german torpedoboats?

A bit more tiny details. I build the two small torpedo-director-disks on the rails and the david. Both seen on an original photo from my friend Lasi, who allowed to show this small part.

Image

The disks are aluminium with steel wire glued in and soldered to the rails.

Image

As this was very tiny, I used my 3rd hand-tool to solder it properly to the rails.

Image

Before I had finished the "Nachtruderlageanzeiger" (night direction indicator) by amplifying the p/e piece on the back and soldering it to the rails. After that I brushed all in grey.
