Hi Guys,
I have finished the model. It is now attached to its base permanently. The base is a piece of Poplar wood, (warps minimally), and a 1/8" piece of dark blue acrylic sheet. Both sheets are the same length and width. The blue acrylic sheet has been painted a mixture of green mottled with blue and then dull-coated. The acrylic sheet has much too much of a reflection after being coated with the acrylic gel if I don't dull coat it first. Here is something I've done for the first time....I painted the silhouette of the sonar dome beneath the model. In semi-clear water, the dome is visible......before adding the acrylic gel......



Speaking of dull coating, I finished the three step dull coat process on the model last night. The gun mount and the ASROC launcher were dull coated separately, so the foredeck was better dull coated with these items removed.

Here is the "water" after being applied. I built up the gel in certain areas to better show the ships wake....
I studied numerous pics of Knox FF's at sea, and I copied the wakes made........overhead view.......

I still have to highlight the wave tops. Once the acrylic gel has completely dried, it is totally clear.
I am going to add on 15 or so L'Arsenal 1/350 crewmen; painted in either blues, greens or khaki.

It's finished...but it's missing a gun!

Hi Guys,
Almost finished I guess. I still have to add on the figures, do a little weathering, highlight the wavetops..........and then it will be done.
This model will be presented to a US Navy veteran, Mr. Ron Athey, (weapons div), from 1975-1979. I will give it to him no later than the end of this month.
Total time spent...about 100 hours between contruction, painting, posting here and studying I'd estimate. Seems like much more!
It's been a learning experience!

Thanks for your responses. The input from you fellows keeps me motivated!
I only see a need for a few more progress pics before I call this one finished. The 1/350 figs will be a painting challenge, and we'll just have to see how that unfolds. Also, attaching the figs without it being noticeable will be a small challenge too, but that's what CA and dull-coat are for!

Congratulations for the fine job.
The wake is very well done too. I can remember my own Baleares-class, and they had a very curious wake, probably because of the sonar dome.

It's been fun, and a great learning experience for me; the Knox class which I knew nothing about before!
I have ordered a 1/96 FF hull, plans and fittings. This is a far off project, but I'll take some of this experience with me.

My next project is a 1/350 WEM CF Adams DDG.
The DDG will be finished by end of July.

Been a while.
I got my 1/96 FF hull and plans yesterday.

The drawings are very good. Also, I forgot to show the MACK, as it is a separate component available for purchase somewhat ready made.
You know Guys, there is NO 1/96 photo-etch detail set available for a 1/96 FF. For that matter, there is no photo-etch detail set for any 1/96 model that I'm aware of. We're on our own guys!
Here is 1/96 SSY hull and plan drawings with the finished FF-1086 Brewton.

I've taken many pics, but the finished Brewton pics I have not shared yet. I guess I was hoping to photo-shop in a different backgound. I have seen this done and it adds to the quality of the image by leaps and bounds. Problem number 1, I don't know photo-shop!

I just started my AFV Club 1/700 Knox class kit, as you already know. I intend to portray the Knox, herself, in the early 1980's.
