County Class Cruiser WWII

Post by Ville »

Saw Edward Jacksons County Class Cruiser 1:96
Where to get Hull Plans is NMM the source or has Norman Ough some usable plan
to build Sussex, Dorsetshire or some of the Australian Coyntys
Can anyone give sources of plans for this project.

Best Regards, Ville Niskanen

Hi Ville,

Your best bet for a large scale model is to obtain as-built plans from NMM. Contact them and tell them what ship you are interested in and they will send you a list of the drawings they can supply along with the prices (not inexpensive). Norman Ough did produce a set of plans for Dorsetshire, but I do not believe they are commercially available at the present time. See my article "1/192 HMS Dosertshire Scratchbuild" on the Online Scratchbuild Projects forum for a discussion of the Ough plans and ordering plans from NMM.

Other sources of known accuracy include the OOP Raven and Roberts books British Cruisers of World War Two (which, if you can find it, will cost you as much or more than a full set of plans from NMM) and Man o'War-County Class Cruisers.

Also available is Profile Morskie's HMS Kent which has a lot of drawings and seems to be a fairly good resource.

Hi Peppe,

I was trying to steer Ville towards resources about these ships that are recognized to be accurate, which, to the best of my knowledge, are pretty much limited to NMM plans and Raven and Roberts' books and plans. The PM Kent book has a very comprehensive set of great looking drawings and a detailed model of the ship as she was in 1941/42 could be built just using that book, but I am unsure of its accuracy. The PM Canberra book has no drawings to speak of, only photographs and (Polish) text.

The Russian drawings that you posted contain some rather obvious errors and I would not use them to build a serious model.
