Pierre,
Brilliant!
How did you make the floater nets? (not the baskets, the nets themselves)

Calling all rebuilt "Big 5" (TN/MD class) fans
It seems that there is no section for these rebuilt ships of WWII. I think it's time we started one. Does anyone have any photos of these ships during reconstruction, or photos of good models?

I think actual photos of their reconstructions would be tough to come by, but start over at Navsource.org. They have excellent collections on both Tennessee class BBs.
The Naval Historical Center has excellent photos of their damage and salvage, though I'm not aware of any during reconstruction. There are excellent photos of them post reconstruction as well. See:

http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-u ... t/bb43.htm
http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-u ... w/bb48.htm
Not that there are multiple links to pages of photos of the ships from different eras.
A great topic, certainly a worthy one. I hope we'll see some models soon...
Regards,

Gentlemen,
I hope Pierre will not mind my spilling the beans, so to speak
but wait until you have seen his latest work in progress. Yesterday I was given a sneak peek at his 1/350 USS New Mexico (still building but nearing completion). I can safely say that the master has outdone himself yet again. In my opinion, this newest model is one or two notches above his current USS California.

As far as I know, the only decent and accurate kits for these rebuilt ships are expensive resin kits. No injection molded ones yet.
That is too bad because I usually buy two kits: The first is to learn how to paint and assemble it and the other for a cleaner build due to experience from the first one (these I display, the experimental ones, I play with like a little child). Unfortunately, resin kits are far too costly for me.
I love these ships, they look somehow like the South Dakotas to the untrained eye.

I wonder if a cheap mhm arizona kit and a cheap hasegawa south dakota kit could be bashed enough to make a superstructure for one of these. it woud take major surgery as the so dak superstructure is boat deck up and is way oversized on an arizona hull (tried that already)Chic Sky wrote: I love these ships, they look somehow like the South Dakotas to the untrained eye.
