simple technical question re LST types

Post by JWintjes »

Having no knowledge whatsoever of landing ships, what are the main differences between the LST (2) and the LST (3) ? And is the Skywave one a LST (2) or a (3) ? Would it be possible to build a LST-542 class out of it?

Thanks in advance.

According to N.J.M. Campbell, LST(3) were British and Canadian-built to the same general plans, but had more extensive riveting and steam plants, and were therefore heavier (2300 tons, light; 4980 deep load) as opposed to LST(2), which were 1,625 tons light; 4,080 full load.

They were also rated slightly faster 13.5 knots vice 12.1 knots.

Your LST(3) model ought to have a larger funnel.
If an unfriendly power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre educational performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war.

Ah, ok. So there is no length difference - that should make things easy.
