Not at all. I like the effect you've achived very much.Kelly Quirk wrote: I'm not 100% sold on the effect... Overall I like that you can make out the hull sections, but maybe I overdid it?
Question Kelly:
Are you going to put etched cat walk floors on her like you did your Nimitz?
Best regards,
Russ

Yes, I will be doing the PE catwalks on this model too. It's a lot of work, but man they sure look good!

Yes, I'm going to light up the hangar deck with LED's and I plan on lighting up the island numbers with fiber optics.Tom-Tom wrote:WIll you add light to the hangar bay ?

My hangar deck is almost complete. Still need to do the ceiling and drop tank racks. Just started working on the airwing for the hangar. I'll try to get some pics up sometime this week.

Re: 1/350 USS Truman
Haven't updated in a while, so I'd thought I'd share my small amount of progress. Still working on the hangar deck.
Here are some vehicles, carts, etc - most scratchbuilt:

These will be the aircract in the hangar bay, just started decalling:

Next we have the drop tank racks for the hangar deck ceiling:

And what's been done on the hangar deck itself:

That's it for now

Re: 1/350 USS Truman
Kelly,
There's a contest/show in KC in April '09, if I remember right. If I make it to that, I'd love an invite to your place in order to check out this build, in person. The photos are great, but I'm sure the real awe still lies in seeing the real thing.
I'm still a newcomer to the ship modeling community, but like I have stated before I see why so many guys are excited that you've come back to building ships.
The drop tank racks in the overhead really surprised and impressed me!
Had you thought of loaning the completed model to the Truman Library in Independence? That's an impressive place. I was there about 11 years ago.

Re: 1/350 USS Truman
Thanks guys. The drop tank racks are made by Tom's Modelworks. The way I have them installed isn't exactly the way they were meant to be... The tanks provided in the set don't fit the PE, so some trimming had to be done, and the racks should hang straight down, and I had to angle mine out. The angle could have been avoided if I cut up the PE parts, but in the interest of time I left it, still looks great when viewed through the door opening!simon b wrote:Kelly

Yes Simon, I used the Tamiya Hornets for the hangar deck. Plan to use the Trumpy ones for the top deck, we'll see how it goes...

Hi Carl,
Yes, our show will be on April 19, 2009. My club is hosting the show, so I'll be working it and won't be able to leave long enough to go home (my house is about 40 minutes away), but if you are ever in KC any other time give me shout, I'd be happy to have you over!
