This is the Tamiya Enterprise around 1940 with the pre-war light gray scheme. I have gotten a head start on the Air Group. I have just one word to desribe Starfighter Decals CV-6 1940 set.

AWESOME !!!!!!!!

Those decals really dress up the Air Group. They also represent a huge level of effort for building a deck load of aircraft.

Thanks for the kind words. Santa brought the Langley CV-1 and Ranger CV-4 so I wanted to get some practice with a cheaper kit like Enterprise in the pre-war colors and air groups.

Not much mystery on this one. I added the gun galleries onto Enterprise that I referenced out of the Friedman book. It was a drawing of Yorktown in 1940. I am working from the assumption that Enterprise and Yorktown were configured the same in the pre-war days. There were two 4 gun galleries on each side of the flight deck and 4 more on the top of the mast.

I like the way the deck turned out. I painted it deck tan and sanded it to put some ware on it. Then I washed it with thinned mahogany to get the stained look.

The airplanes are Trumpeter F-3F, SBC, SBD and TBD's. I started with silver paint and did the wing tops in chrome yellow. The rest is the magic of Starfighter Decals and my near sighted-ness that allows me to see them over the top of my glasses. One of these days I will be blind like the "Forger" in the movie "The Great Escape"! I plan to dull coat them and do the wheels in black, canopies in gunship gray and the props in a titanium color. I am doing a few planes a day to spread out the pain.

I will post a few more pics when I get some more planes done.
