Hiya ASFC,
Very nice job there :thumbs_up_1: , i think i will show my next Osa in a sea base being hounded by A-6's or maybe a Royal Navy Lynx during Desert Storm.

Happy modeling

John

Hi ASFC,
they look great! What class of ships are they? Not Tarantuls, are they?

Damn, look at those SSM launchers!!! Those are absolute monsters, and turret mounted too!

Sweet images, John!

I've got a project of mine that's been bumped up that'll get posted in here, I'm working on a group build on the What-If Forum I'm on, the Sovietize it Group Build - I've bumped up the timetable on my Sovietized Tirpitz to get in on the action - I'll post pics here so you guys can share in the view of my madness.

Helipads, Sandboxes, SAMs and AK-130s - you sent me some of the parts for the whole design, John, you know some of what is to come! The GB kicks off from Feb 1 to May 1, and I'm about to get a new container of Vallejo 905 - Pale Bluegray - I'm going to Need it!

Alright, some of the preliminary build's been started - Conversion's been working hard - I started midnight GMT on the First, the start date for the build, and this is where I've gone so far - the main turret is dry-fit, I was using it to check the positioning on the S-300F launchers. Thankfully they're cold-launch, so there's not much problems with the launch, as well as the fact that they are revolver-launched, with only one tube actually opening for launch. Pictures!

Very nice Simon, i am very curious to see what else you are going to squeeze on there, i am tempted to do one, maybe have a main turret converted to SSM launcher with rotating magazine behind, similar to a Krupny/Kildin Scrubber launcher but more capable.

Looking forward to seeing your progress, Great start :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Happy modeling

John

Glad to know I inspire new thoughts, John. The Turret conversion idea would be an interesting one for a certainty. Delete Caesar, turn the magazine and barbette into the reloading position for the SSM launcher in place of turret Dora, you'd have plenty of ammo, not to mention the sheer effect you could create - easily two or three launchers instead of the single one.

There's plans on putting SA-N-7's on here Somewhere, I'm thinking two launchers in the old forward 105mm gun mountings, and I'd put a blast deflector up to shield the helicopter hangars from the blasts.

Definetely one missile per barrel space, SA-N-7's positioning sounds good :thumbs_up_1:

I am curious about the positioning of the missile launchers (I assume they're missiles) positioned on the main deck along the superstructure. How would they have been fired? Do they raise to fire and lower for normal operations? The only reason I ask is most soviet ships seemed to have fixed missile launchers in that position. Just curious. :wave_1: It looks great, really nice in those colors.

The missiles you're talking about, the P-500 Bazalt missiles, have a model of twin-tube launcher that elevates at an angle for launching the missile, you can see this on the Kiev class, there's a few images of one of them preparing to fire, with one of the launchers raised into place. I'm going to be putting a blast deflector between the two launchers to keep a backblast effect from becoming a problem. The Slava's have these tubes simply at a fixed angle elevated over the deck, I'm guessing for simplicity of design, but in this situation, the pop-up mounts work better in my opinion.

Heh you guys think that's something - I did this all this morning before my shipment arrived with bits and things for aircraft, that led to the birth of a second project that's been quickly bashed with a sledgehammer - I'll post that puppy elsewhere.

Tirpitzski Update - Added the Top Dome radar, bulked out the mount so it looked better. The Kite Screech radars have been fitted for the four AK-130 mountings. The SA-N-7 Gadfly mounts have been fitted on the forward mounts, I've been looking at the positions to mount the Front Dome radars for acquisition and lock. The Top Pair radars I'm debating where to put them - I'm thinking top of the Bridge, over the fire control units. Palm Frond radars will be set up one on the bridge tower, and two off the back of the stack on the platform. Bass Tilts, I have no clue where to put them as yet.

Looking Great Simon, looks really well thought out, Bass Tilt never seem to be too far away from the weapon they control, so maybe it will fit just aft and under the Top Dome ?

Happy modeling

John
