Hey

After I got Box 261's IJN Kasuga kit in 1/350, and its a beauty!, I am searching for materials on it. Especially, I would like to know, whether she ever carried any non-grey-overall livery?

Also, does anyone know any fitting 6" barrels for her? The kits' 6" guns are not uniform in length, the only defect of the kit..

Hello,
the Kasuga carried the same 6" guns as the Mikasa, so one of the options will be getting the Sea Master's barrels:

Thanks!

Contacted them for a custom set of only 6" barrels, and today he already sent it to me!

The only exception from grey scheme that I have seen was of Moreno (later Nisshin) in overall white (or,less likely, very light grey) during machinery trials. There is this postcard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_cruiser_Nishin in black and white Victorian scheme but it might be either a hand coloured photo or a painting. I, personnaly, don't consider it as any sort of proof.

Well, thats sad, I would have loved to make her in a black-white or buff scheme... But, I guess she would look impressive in gray, too! But, which shade of gray is correct? Any suggestions, preferrably in modelmaster enamels?

Kasuga could not be done as preWWI Italian navy G. Garibaldi with green color scheme?

with modified turrets, upper works, and secondaries, as Spanish C. Colon? black/buff paint.

The conversion to an Italian ship should be possible. The main differences appear to be the open bridge (in their early fit).

I like this Morskaja Kollektisja volume as reference:

Using the last link you find profiles showing the difference between Varese and Nisshin.

At least the Italian ships and Kasuga had a very similar armament.

Cristobal Colon not only had different turrets, but also a different secondary armament consisting of 10 x 15,2 cm and 6 x 12 cm (the four Argentinian ships had the same secondary armament).

You know on this site, there is a BOX261 Kasuga converted to a Spanish Cristobal Colon.

Rather nice and detailed conversion. Builder indicates mods. necessary.

Hey

I tried to search the gallery, but I did not find it?

Small update on my Kasuga - I received my barrels from Master, and these are fantastic ;)

Hi PetrO

Let me jump into this thread too, since I am working on IJN pre-ww1 cruiser. I have question in regards to color way of 1890's

From I have seen on internet, IJN color are white body, gun, gun shield, railing, yellow funnel, mast, vent, with thin black line on deck line.

and for deck color, I am thinking to use WEM IJN deck color. any advice?

thanks

That depends mrwawa... photos of Japanese "light cruisers" indeed show them with white hull but most armored cruisers did have black hull.

Hi Darius

Thanks, I know. currently I have pictures of Naniwa in Black hull and White hull.. .very confusing... but I am focusing the model on 1896 war with China. I presume it is white hull. any input?

Hi mermaid... I love the film, thank you... NOW Cruiser Varyag.. will be on my list.. (to build)

I think white hull would be ok mrwawa but I can't be sure about that. I have lost some files in hard disk crash and painting schemes of early IJN was one of them...

White hull is correct for 1896.
