Hi Robin,
I used a folding tool for putting the 90 deg. bends in the feed horn. I have a Tamiya p/e folding tool. It's basically a pair of pliers with smooth jaws and the exterior is relief cut, so you can actually fold past 90 deg. The thin CA was used to bond once all of the folds were done. The screen itself needs to be, "curved", but only in one axis. The,"screen support" for the radar screen itself has to be, "curved", in two axis'.
Once the screen support is bent to fit the back of the radar screen, bond from the center going outward; kind of like torquing down a cylinder head.
The attach points for the screen assembly and the feed horn are on the feed horn assembly and will help in properly locating the radar screen assembly; again I used thin CA to bond these.
If you muck it up, I have an extra for you. Tedious task, but knowing an extra one for you is available helps I think.
Also, I have a gaggle of DesRon 33 decals that were custom made by Darren of HawkGraphics. If you need, I would be glad to share some with you.
Tony

Tony,

Thanks for the help. I have a bending tool too. I was just not sure about the radar screen. Besides I hated the SPS-40. Much perfered the SPS-52 or on the Benny Sweat the SPS-39 for tracking aircraft! And yes I would love to have a DesRon 33 decal. I'll pm you for details for the decals.

Hi, Hope I'm not out of line, not as dedicated as you guys seem to be.
Just about to start on my Dragon 700 (Australian version- HMAS Perth DDG 38) and thought I'd let you know there are still some DDG fans left out there . Bought the model years ago, guess I'm old enough now to build it. Served on all 3 Australian DDG's. I'm still looking for that allusive 350 scale model.
Found the site very usefull. Keep smiling, Reg (Rags)

Hi Guys,
Rags,
Do you mean an all elusive 1/350 Injected DDG?
There are two 1/350 DDG's available in RESIN; White Ensign Models DDG-22 and Commander Models / Iron Shipwright DDG-6.
Both kits are expensive, but that's what to expect from a 1/350 all resin kit. The WEM kit has alternate photo-etch for non-USN subjects.
Heck, I bought my WEM 1/350 DDG from an Australian!
Happy hunting if you dare to go RESIN!!

A 1/350th injected Adams class would be great, but I want bigger. After seeing Revell/Germany's 1/144th scale Fletcher I emailed them with the suggestion of doing an Adams in the same scale, or 1/200. Everyone else email them too!

Hi Guys,
After suffering burnout on the USS Honolulu project, I have decided to see this one through to the end. I dug out my stalled DDG-22 project, and I started to figure things out. Many sub-assemblies are complete and many are not.
Yesterday, I did some clean up work on the funnel sub assemblies and the Mk68 GFCS. There was some clean up needed, and I had already painted them.
Oh well!
The moderators have pleaded with me to NOT post in-progress builds on the CASF forum, as this forum is intended entirely as a source for fact-finding,
I may start posting this thread on the picture post>in progress builds forum.

I'd say we asked nicely...not pleadingly!! :)

You can always post a "click here for an update on my DDG build" post....

GTDEATH13,

That picture of the CIC brought a tear to my eye! I know that view well and all the time I spent working in CIC.

If anyone cares that is a non-NTDS CIC.

There are also plenty of pictures of the real thing on Navsource.

Hi Guys,
Thundergrunt,
I have some 1/700 Rommel stacks leftover from the Dragon DDG-21 kit. Do you want some?
I'm here in San Diego's east county.
LMK, Tony

Hi all,
I am looking for sources of radar antennas for 1/96 DDGs (10, 39, and 40). I am currently building a "BAD" model of DDG-16. Lots of Bennie posts here---I have a picture of her from 72 while she was tied up next to us that shows the bottom half of the second duck blown out. Email me at Jazhansen@msn.com if you want a copy.

Hi Guys,
Jim,
Tom's Modelworks currently makes a1/96 SPS-10, but no -40. I know a few people whom are capable of getting a -40 made, but just have been too busy to see it through myself.
The -39 is solid, so scratch-building this can be done from a material of your choice. Did the BAD kit have some good drawings with it?
Tony
ps were you aboard Joseph Strauss when she was mistakenly skip bombed by one of Connie's A-6's?

Am aware that this thread started two years ago, but am a dedicated DDG man and am hoping that someone out there knows of a 350 scale DDG that may have become available. My interest is that I served on all three Australian DDG's. I have the 700 scale model and would love to do a biggie, but realise a 350 would really be the most practical. Any leads please.
