Hello!
Here is a little update from my basement-shipyard - after very long interruption.
I decided to add a second layer of glassfibre, for security�s sake and could finally manage yerterday to stick on the quarterdeck. next step will be final sanding and 2K-Epoxy-primer and than, fighting with Mom�s waterlilies, the first contact with water should take place... let�s see when

It has happend today: the launch!!
I don�t know how I could manage (job calling me even on this Saturday morning) - but Renown has been sitting on Mommie�s waterlilies this afternoon. With 24 kilos of lead (two of Dad�s old bars to weight his Opel Rekord at the rear wheels in our winters, I could achieve an approximate floating waterline. Together with the additional weight of the superstructure and accumulators, it will fit. But see yourselves!

Hello everybody!

Actually, I am preparing a mechanism for turning both turrets A and B parallely with a single gearbox. It�s a bit tricky, I�ll post pictures later on.
The next step would be to laminate the last decks onto the hull - together with the cuttings for the secondary artillery.
Meanwhile, I�ve got a question: Where to get those 4.5 in.twin turrets (Secondary guns)? Victorious (Geoff) wrote to have bought them as fittings somewhere. I had sent him a pm but never received a response. Do you know where to get them in 1/96?

Hello Joachim Regarding the turrets for Renown you could of course try Mould Deans a Deans marine company . They do many gun fits for that period and in 1:100 scale .Try www.deansmarine.co.uk They had a stand at the Intermodellbau this year. Your Renown is coming along well .

I�ve already asked for a copy of Deans� fittings list and am patiently waiting for post. I guess their 15 in. turrets for HMS Royal Oak should fit on Renown, with height-angle modifications, for sure...

Hello!

I�m still alive! Due to some alternative activity in job and family, Renown had to be a little patient concerning progress. It is only time for a couple of minutes, my grandpa needs my help and attention.
So here are the small results of last time: A mechanism turning turret A and B, linked by a small chain. Actually, I am working on a problem how to stop the turrets after 140 degree turn to port or starbord, I�d like to do this by two relays. But I am an absolute greenhorn talking about electronics, but know a freind of my Mom�s offering help.

Meanwhile I have bought a variable drill for holes between 10 and 120 mm and produced the three turrets barbettes aswell as the secondary artillery�s bodies.


Hope some progress can be shown in near future!

Dear friends,

I had to waste my remaining days of vacation - have a look at the outcome;-)
Shame, the turret turning mechanism by geared electric motor didn�t work as estimated, too weak with 4,8 V, but much too fast with 12V. So the mechanism got dismanteld partially and rebuilt with servo and gearwheels.
Meanwhile, the next deck got attached onto the hull and abaft coaming.
Now I am waiting for the postman to bring the heavy artillery gunbarrels, made from aluminium.
Hope Santa will bring you fine presents, too!

Hello! This is a lifesign from snowy and icy Germany!

Under the surface in the cellar existence is going on^^ And work in the shipyard. With a little time, I have started the stern superstructure. Little tricky to be solved has been the problem where to place the gap between fixed and removable part of the deck. I didn�t want to let it run up to the vessel�s side because of the ship being known as "largest submarine afloat", but decided to place the cut between the wooden part and the steeldeck around the countersunk 4.5 in. turrets. Have a look, I hope my pictures are better than my English;-)

she's coming along good,all three of the ww2 battlecriusers, were very wet aft.i think from adding to much armor,trying to make them battleships.one does not want to have a beautiful build to sink because of a loose seal on a access hatch.keep up the good work

Some little progress has been done,two stacks

With the front superstructure in progress, questions start appearing, p.ex.:Can it be right the superstructure being longer than the deck, producing a hangover? Having a look at the Raven/Roberts� plan of Renown after the big conversion, it seems to be right. Here I have also found an indication that she had a nameplate in 1939, quite similar to Hood at the aft superstructure. But no idea whether it had still been there in 1942....

Going on looking for information...

I like the small bookies of Profile Morskiye. It�s just a pity they don�t offer bigger sizes of plans - so decided to zoom them from 1/400 to 1/100. On some drawings that caused trouble, some percents difference in 1/700 or 1/400 may not disturb, but with an increase of 400% some difficulites had occured. I guess, some lines are not even straight, although the copies were made in a copyshop for architects etc. So comparison is necessary, in the main done with 1/192 Renown plan of WEM. The outcome should be something like the truth

I purchase the plans from Profile Morskie on line in 1/200 scale .They come in sections and you have to tape them together.Then I take them to my All Digital printing Service and have them enlarged to the size I want ,either 1/96 or 1/100 depending on the subject .As you know any time you photy copy something it will change size depending on the copier being used .Most plans I have bought from any sourse are not perfect ,Some to small ,some to big so I don't tell the printer the are this scale and I want them this scale .I tell him that the original is so many inchs long and I want it to be this many inches long .Then he figures the % enlargement .Even then sometimes it does not come out right so he will do it again adding or subtracting 1 % .
As you mentioned going from 1/400 to 1/100 dosen't work to well .
