New Scratchbuild Project Ideas
With the USS Indiana nearing final stages of completion, I am looking for a new project to start this year. One thought is another Escort Carrier, a Casablanca Class, the USS Guadalcanal, accompanied by a DE, the USS Pissbury in a waterline scenario much like the Santee. If this project goes forward it will go to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago,Ill. I'm not sure if in fact this endeavor will go forward. I am looking for ideas in case it does not. Frankly I'm really up for something different. Any ideas out there from all of you? Please post your thought and maybe we can do a poll. Thanks! Your comments are welcomed........ Bill W.

Hi Bill perhaps I can throw my hat into the ring with a few ideas for you to mull over. Ever thought of an APD high speed transport For example the USS Barr. There are a number to choose from , pending availability of plans and photos. but you seldom see them as models? . Just a thought .

Depends on what you mean with "really up for something different". Does a modern build include something different for you? Or will you stay in the same era and choose for a different subject? In that case an Amphib might be something nice, if you wish in a landing diorama maybe? With a sea base and beach etc. ? Just a couple of ideas...

Maybe a pre-war Big 5 with their lovely cage masts, clipper bow, and slender hull?

How about a 1/35 scale LST, loaded for invasion? Maybe with a Brodie system, flying off and recovering planes?
If the project has to go to Chicago, how about a 1/32nd Manitowoc fleet boat on the barge that took them down the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers?
A transport carrying PT boats to the Pacific?
A big scale Zebra-striped PT?(I've got 1/10th scale plans=10' length).
How about a Montana in 1/96 or a 1/96 USS ILLINOIS, BB-65, my favorite?

If it's going to Chicago where the U-Boat is then a "dio" of the ships that captured it would be neat, especially in such a large scale. I'd stare at it for hours, but that's just me

Something completely different............how about something with masts and sails like the Civil War period?
Any ship larger than a Destroyer is a waste of metal.

I totally agree with Cliffy B. Having been to the museum a couple years ago, a diorama of the ships that captured the sub(with the sub included of course) would be a perfect fit to all the artifacts on exhibit. I would definitely make the trip again to see that!

Re: New Scratchbuild Project Ideas
Post your idea of "something different". The excellent work I've seen to date has been all WW2 US ships.
Different to me would be a Victorian era broadside ironclad or even an 18th century sailing ship.
