 Post subject: Shell splashes?

i'm working on a diorama for my 1/96 css alabama, and would like to put shell splashes. any thoughts on how i might go about doing this?

I used a piece of manipulated cotton ball in my England's simple splash:

You can of course add some slight paintwork to yours to give it more depth and colour.

Rather than actual splashes, how about just the white circle where the spash was in the water. Much easier.

Here is another method that works too.Do you want the water rising up as exactly the time of impact of the shell with the water?? This is how I do that. You know what monofilament line is? I take a very short piece and stick it in the base.Then I build up the fountaining water with GESSO ,at the very top I stick some cotton on it.When all this is dry I take masking tape.stick it to the cotton and pull away quickly. The cotton shreds to a wispy remnant It would be white or off white and transluscent. Use the cheap brand of heavy hold hair spray on the cotton to fix it and paint and finish your base.The splashes, as long as they,re NOT too tall are very believeable! commodore4
