Sinking Merchant ship Diorama

Post by MarkieSparkie »

I have started yet ANOTHER project. I know, I know, I have a billion other models that will probably never be finished but that isn't the point right now.

I was sitting in my room thinking about how to start a scratch-built diorama since I had the idea in my head for some time. I really didn't want to have to build a hull and then it hit me; I had a medium size kit of the Cutty Sark that was missing some pieces but the hull pieces was all there. I realized that if my diorama was of a sinking ship no one would really be able to tell that the hull was a sailing ship since the stern is similar to a stern from a late 1800's ship. And so here is my progress so far:

Here is the model with the poop deck applied as well as the hull plating.

here is a close-up of the hull plating. It didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped but when I weather the hull I think it will look good.

Here is the model just after the application of the main deck. The superstructure has also been applied. The portholes are kind of large but a regular hole-punch is all I had to work with.

Not having the means to do something is the true definition of impossible.

The Love Love was built to look as if it is sinking

French artist Julien Berthier has designed a fully functional boat to look as if it is sinking.

The 6.5m yacht was cut in half with a new keel and motor added so it remains in the sinking position while being fully functional.

He describes it as "the permanent and mobile image of a wrecked ship that has become a functional and safe leisure object."

The "sinking" yacht is one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time! I want one, bad.
