Took some pictures of Sara and Forrestal in Newport a few years ago. I couldn't get as close as I wanted, but they should be helpful....

Greetings,
Did jgrease and boats ever finish the Revell 1/540 Forrestal projects they were working on? I have a Saratoga that I'm still gonna build. Where can I find some A-7 and RF-8's? Do I have to make them from scratch?
Happy MNY!

I can tell you mine is still in drydock. I have brought it out to see where I can go with it since it's been lingering a LONG time. For aircraft in the 1/5xx scale, check Starfighter Decals' website. Mark is the man when it comes to these kits and the little details.

Thanks,
I wasn't sure if there was anything still out there for these older kits. Now maybe I can finish my Coral Sea and Saratoga. I wanted a pre-1985 airwing for both ships. So if they have em, my ships won't just linger on the unfinished shelf. :smallsmile:Dane

To be completed:
1:540 Midway, Coral Sea 47-1955
Coral Sea(SCB-110) early1984
Lexington CV-16
Saratoga(JFK) early 1984

Dane - Looks like Mark at Starfighter is getting his Skyraiders and Corsairs retooled, so you may want to contact him for a time frame on getting new ones. Good luck with your project, and I hope to have an update one of these days.

Boats and jgrease,
How difficult is it to convert Forrestal/Sartoga to JFK? Have a pic from 1984 from Coral Sea's flightdeck looking at Island showing the angle of JFK's stack.

Boats and jgrease,
I'll post some pics as soon as I can get a digi-camera. I haven't kept up with todays technology guys. I had these kits for years and the kit manufacturers aren't re-releasing them. Don't know if Revell will bring the Forrestals back.

Converting a Forrestal to a JFK would be a monumental undertaking. Everything about the Forrestal would need to be pretty drastically modified. Length is off, flight deck would need a lot of work, island would too. Hull would need tons of work.

I've been researching the JFK and it seems the USS America or possibly the USS Nimitz might be the best starting point for a JFK.

Hello, I´m again. I do investigate about a different kits of Kitty Hawk carrier and wich are available or out of inventary/stock.
In begining, I have see an 1/800 ARII kit, a simple kit , what are your opinion about it ? Pro and defects ? Are post-Vietnam versión ?
Later, I saw a different Fujimi´s kit; it´s, more expensive for me and its out of stock in some shops. I´m interesting in Vietnam versión ; could you say me if a big difference between this and a 1998 versión, in adittion to airwin set ?
I want assembly any, I to prefer a 1/700 Fujimi Vietnam versión, but its more expensive for me and difficult to obtain.
However, a 1/800 ARII looks a wood kit too, minor detaill and nothing PE for this scale.
I get a big dilemma...... :please:
Please, can you give your opinion ?
Regards

Alberto

This class to be dismantled, not sunk, as per new disposal rules: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42474098/ns/us_news-environment/

Nice picture included of the Forrestal, stripped down.

I have used the 1/800 Midway for parts and I would say that the kit was average and the aircraft were below average. The 700th scale Fujimi Kit is the best one of Kittyhawk. If it is out of your budget then I would just save longer. The availability of aftermarket aircraft and detail sets makes the 700th kit that much better.

Thank Mark for your opinion. Wath are your opinion about posibility to use any 1/720 Italeri´s Kitty Hawk ? Does it better in comparaction to 1/800 ARII ? I think that Italeri are similar scale with 1/700 Fuji´s kit, are full hull and are posible use any 1/700 Trumpeter´s airwing set F-4 or RA-5 for Vietnam era, it´s true ? I saw at net there isn´t or out stock now for 44108 or 44111 Fujimi´s airwing set Vietnam era.
Do yo think are wood alternative 1/720 Italeri + 1/700 Trumpeter´s airwing ? Are Italery Kitty Hawk better detail that 1/800 ARII ?
Thank again, and excuseme because my english don´t very well.

Alberto

Hi Alberto,

The Italeri Kit is much better than the Arii Kit and the Fujimi Kit is better than the Italeri. The 1/700 Aircraft look a little big when you put them on the 1/720 ship. I did a 1/720 Nimitz with the 1/700 aircraft and it looks good.

I hope that helps,

MM

Mark,

I tried to PM you but since I am new to the forum it would not let me. I am looking to build a model of the KITTY HAWK and I was wondering if the Fujimi kit was a full model or a waterline model. I was also wondering which model has the KITTY HAWK closest to it's decommisioning? Thanks for your help.

Paul
