1/144 admiral sheer s.c. scratch build

Hi Russ I take my hat of to you .You can build well and quickly a very rare combination and one that all professional model builders possess. I do like the planking effect .In the past I have set to and laboriously planked all the decks; it seemed to take for ever especially when the margin planks are added to each and every deck fitting. I never did get a grip on joggling into the outer margin plank .Kiwi medic has done this so well with his 72nd Bismarck. I have used Bass wood and lime as the timber of choice for the planks.

thanks dave ,i looked again at kiwi medic's planking job.what a lovely job.it must have taken months or years to do this.every thing is so neat ,can't see any slip up's.if i try'd this it would not look like that and i would not be happy with it.Are you getting close to laying a keel.

Hi Russ yes Kiwi Medics planking is top draw. Never the less your approach is different but the results are just as effective and impressive. Keel laying ceremony for the new build is ship yard dependent, you just can�t get the staff these days to get ship shape and prepare the slip for the new hull. I am trying to build 2 slips but it's not easy in a space just 10ft x 6ft: scratch:

i know how you feel dave my work space is 9 by 5.5 ft.i used to have a whole room not any more,i have to be very carefull moveing s.c around.

hello all,i took a brake from the hull for a while.built some 37mms ,i had no scale drawings only a basic outline on the plans and a couple of pics so i made one as a trial effort them modified the rest.they have photo -etch hand wheels and the barrels are some left over 57mm,s from my 1/192 jean bart build,they are darn close to the 37mm,s in 1/144.photo-etch and barrels in 1/144 are hard to track down.there are 40 pieces to each gun,there are 4 of these on sheer,thank god she is not japanese or there would probobly be a bunch of them.i found these a lot easyer to build from scratch than the 25mm,s on nagato that were photo-etch.just a little bigger in scale made a big differance.still small for my fingers.anyone know any where one can find 1/144 barrels.

with all the snow it's a good day for modeling.i thought i would cast some doors today.instead of making a mould i used some playdough .i made a master and press'd it into it ,this way i could make all of them at once .came out pretty good .i used a toothbrush with soap and hot water to clean them up.they did clean up pretty good but next time i will use a plyable wax ,i did this before but i forgot what i used so i tryed playdough ,it's o.k but with wax one does not have to clean them in soapy water.

A great idea! I have dozens of doors to build for my model, and I have been wondering how I will do it. There are several different types, and most are not available commercially. I have considered stamping them out of thin brass or making white metal castings, but this technique certainly is easier.

hello phil,what works better than playdough it a soft wax,like what some cheese is coated with ,if you warm it up a bit it is fairly plyable.easy to push a master into it.also no need for mould release.

hello all,todays project was the build the 3 anchor capstians.i always look for things that will make a part but are somthing else.the winchs are made from thumb tacks, bic lighter parts, and the things you get from ikia for covering screws and one piece of photo-etch a hand wheel.all modified a bit . my decking has no plank end lines .i have two ways to do it one is a fine pen with black ink the other is a lead pencil.i picked the pencil it did not smudge, and is not as bold,also if i make i slip up i can erase it.
