Some more info about the Super Yamato, it possible from the kit to make a "normal" IJN Yamato too, also for the first time there will be new molds of 10 cm/65 (3.9") Type 98 DP guns in 1/500.
Same with the 1/700 version.
Cause the Super Yamato was supposedly to carry this new heavy AA instead of the old 12.7 cm/40 (5") Type 89.

For limited quantity the 1/500 IJN Super Yamato will have brass barrels (9 in tottal) for the main guns.

New CGI film of Yamato's "Final Battle" (aka Okinawa)

Post by bucketfoot-al »

Gang -

Here is a link to a new 42-minute Japanese CGI movie about Yamato's "Final Battle" (aka Operation Ten-ichigo, suicide mission to Okinawa).

Take a gander and let me know what you think. The CGI is done very well, and the 'sailor's-eye view' of all the action makes for a very interesting viewing. Certainly looks from the various shots that they patterned a lot of the action directly on existing USN combat photos of the operation.

Also borrows a few scenes from Oto ko Tachi. The CGI is not quite up to professional standards, so its obviously a fan product rather than a Japanese TV show. However, very well done and covers all aspects of the battle well. A few minor quibbles over details on Yamato but nothing major. I'm sure aficionados who felt there weren't enough battle scenes in the movie will now be very happy.

I bought the book - which comes with the DVD - on ebay. Try searching for Yamato 3d or Yamato CGI on ebay.

There are DVDs of a few other operations as well per the promos on the DVD.

Doug - I don't think any of the scenes are from "Men of Yamato". All the CGI appears original. Yes, not motion picture quality, but as one of those who lamented the lost opportunity to show more battle scenes in that movie, I am INDEED satisfied. So much so that I took the trouble to film the show with my HD camera so I could share!

Porthole Covers Help

Post by Senkan »

Looking for something I can use as sealed port hole covers for my 1/200 Yamato. They are about 2mm wide. Thinking of a small disk/slug but cant find any that small. Another option is cutting styrene rod but that is a last resort.

Hey Doug - or anybody else who has viewed the video linked above:

What is the device that the B-29 is seen dropping with a parachute into the water at the beginning of the movie? Is it a mine, or an underwater listening device of some sort? Those are the only possibilities that come to mind ...

Hello Yamato & Musashi experts!

Do we by chance know if the turrets holding the 20" guns of the "Super Yamato" were to be the same size as the 18.1" turrets/used the same turrets themselves or would new and larger turrets have been constructed?

Thanks, guys!

I dont think the turrets where different, the 50 cm main guns where supposed to be on the existing 46 cm base, but in double turrets instead of triple.

If you have a punch tool it might do the trick. Just use styrene sheet of the right thickness and punch to the size needed. It's easier to replicate than by cutting styrene rod at least for me :heh:

Im using chipboard with my hole puncher. Working well so far. The puncher has a hard time with styrene.
