Re: Calling all IJN Destroyer/DE fans
Hello--I have the Aoshima 1/700 Yukikaze 1945.
It has quite a few options, turrets, torpedo tubes,
motor launch, AA guns but none are shown in the instructions.
Which type of armament do I want for the 1945 version.
The instructions don't even mention 1945, it is only
mentioned on the box.Are there any good pictures or
build reviews that might help?---Thanks---John

Re: Calling all IJN Destroyer/DE fans
Greetings
I am currently building a 1/350 model of Makigumo, a Yugumo class DD. My father was on the Hornet which was sunk by this ship plus Akigumo.
If anyone has a photo of the ship or can direct me to one other than the one on Wikipedia, please let me know.
Thanks.

Re: Calling all IJN Destroyer/DE fans
Good day to all.
My next ship project is IJN DD Harusame. I plan to build and improve on Tamiya's ancient 1/700 kit (in my stash) in its final configuration at the time of its sinking off Biak island in June 1944.
Miyukikai's 1/125 and 1/200 scale drawings only offers plans in the DD's first reconstruction in Jan. 1944. Can anyone shed some light on the DD's full anti-aircraft armament, like the difference (if any) between its Jan.1944 reconstruction and June 1944 sinking?
Thank You kindly.

Re: Calling all IJN Destroyer/DE fans
She was probably in original fit when torpedoed by Wahoo in Jan 1943. It took almost 9-10 months to bebuild her. You want that fit as reconstructed?

Re: Calling all IJN Destroyer/DE fans
If there were no changes to physical appearance and anti-aircraft armament by the time of her sinking off Biak (June 1944) then that'll be the configuration I'll be basing my model on. I would expect her anti-aircraft armament to be improved that late in the war. Just needed confirmation.

Re: Calling all IJN Destroyer/DE fans
I did not copy the link off of HLJ but, apparently, Fujimi is also planning to release a new Shiratsuyu tooling, as well as PitRoad. If that info is correct, this should be interesting.
The preliminary pix of the PitRoad kit show the basic shapes, but I'm not blown away by what I see.

Re: Calling all IJN Destroyer/DE fans
Dan, thanks for the heads up. I have ceased work (temporarily) on my 1/700 Tamiya Harusame and plan to order both the Fujimi and Pit Road offerings. I will compare and build the best of three and the other two goes into the spares box

Atma, Thank you very much for the link. I'll be placing an order for the Fujimi and Pitroad kits thru a local hobby shop at tomorrow's ship modellers gathering.

You know, I never posted this (colorized) shot of the reconstructed Harusame. Sorry.

Re: Calling all IJN Destroyer/DE fans
No problem, Dan, you are just fashionably late
But hey, this is definitely better than the black and white pic I got off wikipedia, I think. Its kinda surprising that the IJN didn't install single AA guns on the Harusame after this refit in light of increasing aerial threat.

Re: Calling all IJN Destroyer/DE fans
Well, they did acknowledge that increasing threat from aircraft in the wake of both Midway and Guadalcanal as can be seen in the increased AA fits of the DDs in 1943. I guess they thought what they offered would be adequate, until proved otherwise. Material shortages and top weight considerations may have also been a concermn.

I'll post this on the CASF Fubuki Cl thread. It's a mid 1943 fit.
