INCREASED LENGTH OF BUILD TO ALLOW FOR MORE PARTICIPANTS!

This build will begin at some point in January. As of right now I am just trying to see who is going to participate.

The build will be based off Russian warships. Any time frame is permitted.

The rules/restrictions:

1. Any scale is allowed. All types of mediums are allowed. Kit or scratch it does not matter. What if's will be allowed as well as long as there is a historical background to them. No far fetched schemes! Something like the Red October typhoon class would qualify though.
2. Photo etch is allowed and use of such is encouraged.
3. Each kit must be completed in order to be judged
4. One entry per person.
5. In the case of a diorama, only the focal point will be judged. Be sure to note which kit is the one you'd like to be judged.
6. Accuracy is important but not a key factor. For instance I know there is a Borodino class in the gallery painted in grey and green. Something like this is fine because the overall impression will be judged.
7. Have fun! :cool_2:

A time frame for the build will be calculated at a later date, but I believe it will run until May, allowing time for large 1/350 scale ships like Kuznetsov and Kirov to be built.

Prizes awaiting confirmation.

If you are thinking about participating, just chime in below or send me a private message with any further inquiries. I myself will be building either the 1/350 Sovremenny or Borodino, though I haven't decided yet.

Participants thus far
1 GTDEATH13 - 1/200 Sovremenny
2 steviecee - varyag cruiser
3 d-boy - 1/350 India Class
4 WI_Chris - 1/700 Kirov 1938
5 California Bound - 1/350 Typhoon
6 Quincy - 1/700 L-16
7 drdoom1337 - 1/350 Varyag
8 fletcher - 1/350 Varyag
9 sirpaul - 1/700 Kuznetsov
10

I have a suggestion: Someone can participate with as many builds as he likes, but only one of his finished models will de judged. I am in with a 1/200 Sovremeny from Trumpeter. :woo_hoo: :woo_hoo:

I would be in with this Waveline kit of a Russian India Class Rescue Sub:

Some background and depictions, via Wiki:

"The Project 940 Lenok class (a type of Salmon) (known in the West by its NATO reporting name India class) was a military submarine design of the Soviet Union.

The India class of boats were designed for high surface speeds, and had tracks on their hulls so they could operate on the ocean floor. The submarines of this class were designed to function as a base for two Poseidon DSRV's (Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicles), which could rescue the crew of sunken submarines.

While the India class boats have been seen going to the aid of Russian Submarines involved in accidents, they have also been observed working in support of Russian Spetsnaz special operations. The boats had decompression chambers and medical facilities on board. Two vessels of this class were built for the Soviet navy. Both were scrapped in the 1990s."

I will participate in my first group build, and first work in progress build for this! I am going to build the Lt. Cruiser Kirov 1938. I've had it for a while, and I've never seen it built. Just have to find some reference!

I'm in, if I can find something appropriate to build.

So I have been in contact with Alex from Northstar Models and he's a great guy! He's agreed to sponsor the contest with 1st-3rd place prizes as well as a special award for his pick of "Best Overall" I will also personally supply an award for "Most Active" build member.

As a side note, I was considering allowing amphibious vehicles as well, just in case someone has an odd BMP2 kit in their stash, but that will be based on what everyone thinks. :thumbs_up_1:

Depending on how long it runs, I will probably join in. Just need to figure out what I am building.

It looks like I will be attempting to correct a 1/350 Dragon Typhoon.

I think I'll be participating with a 1/700 Combrig L-16 submarine. Pacific Front Hobbies to the rescue. :heh:

Threads been updated with a time frame. I am near 100% certain there will be gift certificates for first second third and judges choice winners. The more that participate the better!

OK, I'm in.....5 months gives me enough time and still get my cruiser done to. Think I will go with a 1/350 Zveda Varyag.

It doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of interest in this build at the moment, should it be put off? The cruiser build kind of stole all the thunder. :mad_1:

I think that we should postpone this until March... Perhaps there is an increase in interest then...

Postponing works for me, don't have my ship yet anyway.

I would like to join in, but i have joined in the cruiser group build, and don't think I could get a Russian ship done in the short time frame for this build...... Extending the deadline will definatly help.

I can hold off for a few weeks, but will probably then have to start a general wip in order to get as many builds done this year as I plan.
