:jump_1: :jump_1: :jump_1: :jump_1: :jump_1: Hello all,
Im starting a new project for a friend of mine- he was stationed on the Furer during the 80s. I usually only model WWII stuff, but thought the change may be good for me

The hull is from The Scale shipyard, as are he plans and some of the fittings. There isnt a wealth of research material available for her- so if anyone see's anything that doesnt look right- I'd appreciate you letting me know.

Heres the hull, all framed in, and the deck on. This is a static model, so no need for access points this time.

heres a shot of the prop and shaft boss- these where turned on a metal lathe and made of brass
Image

Ive started the superstructure today- just a little bit of it done...
Image

Heres a pic of the MK56 Director, I bought this from JD products. Beautiful little kit....
Image

heres a couple pics of some fittings I got from the Scale shipyard- first the 5"/38 mount and then the asroc launcher...

thanks for looking in!
Brad

Hi Brad Nice start you have made. Makes all the difference when you don't have to install any internals.

Oh this is going to be good! Always loved these little FFGs and this one is looking great so far. Those fittings are phenominal. If you are in need of photos I'd suggest rooting around over on these two sites:

http://www.navsource.org/archives/06/0601006.htm

http://www.defenseimagery.mil/index.html
Search for "FFG-1" with the quotes (sub in the other ships as well) and you'll find some high-res shots of her class. They only have one shot of FFG-6 for some reason but its from 1984 so it should prove helpful.

http://www.defenseimagery.mil/imagery.html#a=search&s=%22ffg-6%22&chk=6cff0&guid=94feb83037b61b9ed49e997da065bb8cad4ecfec

Hope that helps a bit,
-Mike

Jim- You betcha... nice to have a little break from that- having said that though, I have a Bismarck going in the background there- that'll have all the bells and whistles.

Mike- Thanks for the webiste- that was one I hadnt used before. I managed to get a couple pics of one of her sisters that I didnt have. Thanks alot!

Richard- J+D makes some of the best stuff around- followed closely by lee at the Scale Shipyard... its Always a pleasure to open up a package from them.

Heres some pics from today- have most of the superstructure built up- I didnt realize how similar the shapes where to a perry until I started building.

Ive been looking at lots of pictures, and have a question for anyone who might know. Whats the angular piece in front of the bridge? It appears to have some connection to the asroc- but it only looks like FFG-4 and 6 have this. heres a couple pics off of Navsource- they are actually pics of my monitor, as im not sure if its proper to link to them- or to saved pictures. but maybe someone will know.

Image

Image

heres one last pic- the beginings of the bridge- although right after I started this, I found a decent pic showing my window configuration was wrong- so had to scrap this piece.

Thanks for looking in!
Brad

I guess it's for reloading the ASROCs, similar to the pre-Ticonderoga cruisers and how their arm launchers were reloaded.

Tim is absolutely correct about the angular piece. Knox class ffgs had this piece also. You might find some good photos with the hatches open and the process of reloading the launcher in progress.

A very interesting build, not a common subject, but a really nice one...

Keep the photos coming... :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

As the others have said, that is indeed for reloading the ASROC launcher. In addition to the FF-1052 class look at photos of the FF-1040 class (FFG-1 class half sisters) as they had very similiar if not the exact same reloading assembly.

The angular structure under the bridge is the Asroc magazine and the doors for the reloading system.

Hello all,

well, finallly got a little more work in here... Finished the basic structure of the MACK, I used some PVC pipe with a styrene insert to give it the shape it needed. also, finished up some details on the hull, and installed the rudder.
Image

Image

Also, my wife prepared some of the various fittings for paint- here they are before she took them away. (she never lets me touch ANYTHING that applies paint- (smart girl  ))
Image

Hopefully with any luck, the hull will be ready for paint tonight- and we'll start seeing some color!
Best
Brad
