When to add the railing?

Hi,
When is the best time to glue the railing in place?
When buildinf AFVs I always build everything and then paint, but with ships maybe this is not a good idea.
So what is the common way to add the railings?

Different modelers do it differently - check out the works in progress and you'll find that some attach rails before painting and some who build up nearly the whole model before adding them. I do the latter - paint the railings on the fret, attach them to the ship when I'm done most of the other work, then touch up.

I add railings and stairs to each superstructure level as I go along. I usually test fit the railings before painting them to reduce touch up work caused chipping paint during the bending process. Main deck railings go on last.

I'm thinking of trying to glue a very thin strip of evergreen plastic to the bottom of the railing while on the PE fret. When dry, I can use liquid cement to glue it to the ship. Maybe it will turn the process easier to me.
I'll try it and report how it went

Interesting idea, especially for the railings that have open stantions at the bottom rather than a solid rail. I'll give this a try myself.
