National Model Engineering show Harrogate UK

Post by Dave Wooley »

Last week I was asked to join the juding team at the National Model Engineering event in Harrogate UK .Although as the title would imply this show is very much centered on the model engineering side of model building and is one of the premier events in the UK for model engineering . However the boat input is outstanding in both quality and in respect to engineering content.
These are just a very small sample of the huge number of boat models on display .
This is a 1:72nd model of HMS Warspite .Took 14 years to build and has 25 functions but the quality of the build is outstanding .Seen here is Colin Vass the builder demonstrating some of the functions to an attentive audience .

Here are a number of pictures of Richard Myoka's fabulous 1:72nd scale Udaloy 2 the Admiral Chabanenko.

Richard Also presented into the competition his equally outstanding Sovremenniy

Paul Bannon with his multi functioning USS Harry S Truman was a great hit with young, old and the judges.

So good to see Colin's Warspite finished. The first time I saw it was right at the beginning, when he was experimenting with water ballast, boy was she heavy. it was quite amazing to see him get the hull into a Vauxhall Calibra! I assume he has the same turret and gun mechanisms as planned, revolving breached and .22 blanks I seem to recall. Fantastic work.

Hi Dave, a set of excellent photos of superb models - thank you for posting them.

This exhibition went below my radar, so wondered when it took place, and when it next be, etc, etc.

Hoping to have my Missouri finally fully finished for IPMS at Telford.
Regards
Mike

Wow, what a model, a real joy to behold. I'm (so I'm told) off to the Midland Miniature Engineering Exhibition in Warwickshire later this year, I hope it shows there. Thanks for posting this.
