Wave Formed Sheet

Hi,

I really love the way that this seascape looks:

But I can't find anywhere this Wave Formed Sheet, do anyone know where I can buy it, or if anyone have some spare I'd like to buy it.

I think that this is the most realistic way to do a big scale sea, so I would like to try it out

I think that you misunderstand what is being done in this build.
He did not buy a "wave formed sheet".
He created the waves by using a product called Liquitex, an acrylic gel, to sculpt the waves on a base of wood sheet, painted and topped with plexiglas to which he applied the Liquitex, sculpted the waves, applied more paint and then the white foam, which is also an acrylic gel.

I kindly disagree with you, Russ. The gentleman actually applied Liquitex to the wave formed sheet and peeled the curred Liquitex gel off of the sheet and used the solid Liquitex.

That's how I understood the process, anyway.

He applied the liquetex gel on the wave sheet, whet that was dried he pulled off the thin layer and used that layers to make the actual sea.

I don't have a preformed plastic wave sheet, so in order to do this process I need to buy ONE at least (than I can make layer of GEL out of it). So my question is where to find (buy) this preformed sheet, I did understand the process

Tamiya made it in several versions a few years ago; TamiyaUSA still has it listed, so might have it available? http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.p ... t-id=89673

are out of it. Looks like Tamiya hasn't produced any more.

The guy that made the Missouri diorama spoke of some other brand, maybe someone else is producing something similar

I tried that as a brand but didn"t come up with anything and if you look at the packaging he shows, it looks a lot like Tamiya's packaging.

Plastruct makes a similar product, though Tamiya's looks better, I think, for open ocean.

I bought a few of these at HLJ a couple of years ago and they're pretty good: rough surface on one side and light wave pattern on the other. Was about twice the size I was expecting when it arrived. Get it where you can since they seem to have been discontinued.

Alternatively you might want to check your local home improvement store. Clear plastic diffusers panels for fluorescent lights sometimes can be found with a suitable wave pattern. Something like this: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... =202653804 is only $5.00 a sheet.

exactly, Lucky model "available" status means just that....But, I'm just wondering, I need this for a 1/350 A/C carrier, all this sheet are presumably for 1/700 scale, would it be "out of scale" for a 1/350 ship?

I looked at the Tamiya wave sheets some time ago and found them too small and expensive for the size I usually work with. My scrounger instincts finally kicked in and I found an acrylic sheet supplier.

In the West Coast, its Tap Plastics, which operates several stores from California to Seattle. These guys sell the stuff in large sheets in various thicknesses for privacy glass applications, commercial displays, table tops, etc. I discovered that these stores custom cut the stock to size for their customers. This then leads one to the left-over scrap material from the cutting shop and the wonderful "scrap box". Large (by model standards) odd-shaped chunks can be found here for bargain prices (compared to the price from our friends at Tamiya), if you are willing to nose around a bit. A few times each year you can find me "dumpster diving" in one of these stores.

I have found their "Lucerne" and "Insbruck" texture patterns to be useful for a starting point to simulate various wave patterns. By holding each piece at an angle to the light, you can see if it has the "wave" pattern that you are looking for.

Not sure where you are located, but if you go to their home page you can see all the various applications the stuff is used for. I would bet that there is some sort of supplier for the material near you.....Good Luck
