Calling all Royal Navy Type 45 (Daring-class) DDG fans

Post by GTDEATH13 »

I am starting this thread mainly because I have just finished assembling the cyber hobby HMS Daring kit.

Some things I have noticed:

The instructions do not show the CIWS Phalanx ?od 1B on either side of the superstructure amidships. You can find them at the weapons sprue but they are kind of crude in detail.
You will also need life rafts, just aft of the CIWS enplacement.
The two covers of the side gangways amidships are two thick and need having their edges trimmed before installing them.
The bottom half of the hull is about 1mm wider than the upper half.
The aft mast could really use some pe dipoles.
On either side, just fore of the breakwater there are machinegun emplacements.

You will also need to use some filler where the hanger meets the mid ship area. These are one of the best looking modern destroyers IMO.

I talk with airfix and they should be releasing the Daring very soon. I believe it was already due out but it was pushed back.

Thanks Phil, that does look good. If it manages to hit the shelves in London when I'm there two weeks from now, I might have to pick one up.

Hi Timmy,I doesn`t look as though the Type 45 will be out ,when you visit London.I`ve just got the latest release list from Airfix and all it contains are some new Tankie things ,not even a new Spitfire!!

HMS Darling class Type 45

Post by corpsman »

Maybe I missed it, but looking for reviews, build tips, etc. of the 700 scale Dragon British Type 45 destroyers.

Appears to be the "simple" build due to no deck clutter.

After paints used and rigging of the mast.

Thank you!!!

Hi Gus,

you did miss it. A few topics down the line you'll find the "RN Type 45 AAW destroyer" that's the Daring class.
No reviews on the kit yet though.

HMS Daring is a very different warship from all previous RN warships .This may sound an obvious overstatement. But as warships go it's far more complex on the exterior surface than you would at first appreciate , many of fittings above bulwark level are asymmetric even the bridge surround is asymmetric and the Sampson fore mast is partially covered with tiles . Sections of the amidships bulwark is designed to be movable and not fixed into place and for good measure its not level along its full length. There is also a considerable assortment of fittings below bulwark height especially around the lower levels of the deck housings, appearances can be deceiving .

Amusingly, it still shows as "not in stock". Wish they'd update it with some sprue shots.

Edit: Ah ha, it's the non-gift box version that's now in stock: http://www.airfix.com/airfix-products/n ... yer-a12203
