Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Actually, really new paint jobs on IJN warships were quite glossy, including the black top of the funnels. You see a number of photos of newly painted ships with the sun reflecting brightly off parts of the ship. The problem is glossy hobby paint does not do a good job mimicking the effect of reflective paint on large objects.

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
A couple of questions regarding the Musashi.
1. I am trying to make a 1/700 Musashi which accurately depicts its time at Singapore before Leyte (I am a Singaporean btw). I heard it was painted with captured Royal Navy colours. Which colour is the most accurate? Tamiya colours preferred.
2. I am looking for the pit road 1944 conversion for the Musashi. I thought I had one last night but apparently some guy made a last minute bid and won it during my sleep! Are there any stores which still sell this conversin kit? If anyone can help me acquire one, it will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Hi all
One year ago I purchased the Tamiya 1/350 Yamato kit (old kit ), soon I started to collect documentation, so I also bougt Super illustration volume and the modelart with pics of 1/10 scale model at kure museum.
After that I bought the Lior Roar set, pontos wood deck and many 25 mm barrels from Master model PL.
Now I ordered the Ishida set to add details on Forecastle, rear Deck, ventilators ecc ecc.
I followed many discussions on color of the main deck...
My question is...
I must paint the ship before applyng wood deck?
then paint small details and add them?
is there a correct build sequence?
This is my first ship wit wood deck.
(sorry for my bad english)
Thank you in advance
cheers

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
I just picked up a Fujimi 1942 Musashi from a hobby store going out of business. The tooling looks a little older but the kit seems like a good start. Currently, I'm trying to locate a good PE set for the kit.
Is the GMM set still good for the older fit of this ship? The superstructure layout is quite a bit different without the big secondary guns. How's the Tom's?

I haven't used Tom's. I suggest Lionroar PE which i used on this ship. But there are only 2 sets of secondary guns PE coz it was made for Yamato of 1945. But the quantity is good. If u have difficulties in finding this just let me know i will see wht i can do.PetrolGator wrote:I just picked up a Fujimi 1942 Musashi from a hobby store going out of business. imlaam: How much PE does one of the secondaries take? Perhaps I can find some resin replacements that'll look halfway decent?

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Hi guys.
I have read Herbieham's build log and after finally moving into a property with a 20ft x 10ft shed at the end of the garden you can guess I have commandeered that! Well long story short I have made my mind up to do a 1941 Yamato. As I'm slowly reading through the 80 pages here so far I was wondering where can I get some decent put not stupidly expensive hull line plans? As $1650 US from Loyal hanna dockyard seems a bit steep? Unless they have the decimal point in the wrong place? I did find one for about 50 When i first started looking when I joined but wonderful technology Al-La laptop H.D.D. crashed and lost everything including my bookmarked pages. I have half sorted most ideas in my head how I'm going to achieve it as I plan on controlling it out on the water.
Any and all help greatly appreciated.
