Don't hold your breath with Pavel (this is not a slam at all) - even if he decides to do it, it'll be a while before he can get to it. I don't know that anyone has come up with good drawings for the Tilly yet.

I have been trying to figure out which short hull to make from the Trumpeter Franklin. I would be crazy not to use the Yorktown Pontos set from studying it and the available (online) photos, my best choice would be the Yorktown. The only problem with that is I don't like the dazzle schemes.

I an seeing that the radar arrays are different. Also there are differences in the late war islands - an obvious gun director on the admirals bridge. Some late war ships had one or two stern quad 40's.

I would like to do a late war Lexington - say June '45. I have a disease now which causes me to do an accurate ship... Any one have a suggestion about a PE radar set which has all the late war arrays?

I may have to live with the inaccuracies and just do the best with the Pontos set...

Lexington's off the table unless you want to scratch build five or six Army Quad .50s. Really, the biggest PITA (Pain in the @ss) with these ships' configurations is the flight deck. Short or long *notched* or not. The "problem" with the Pontos set is that it has the two notches for the quad 40mms on the port side, right next to the open 5" gun galleries. They started lowering these guns and filling in this notch in late 1944. That means that you can't use the wood deck for the following ships in 1945:

CV-10
CV-13
CV-16
CV-17
CV-18
CV-20
Not sure about CV-11 yet, but she's an oddball for a bunch of reasons any way.

And the long-hulls too, of course. They're even worse.

Forgot about the quad .50s. So a mid 44 Lexington would not have the deck notches?

You have to be mindful of the alteration process. Tracy stated that it was mid '44 when they started filling in the notches and lowering the tubs. But that would not have been done to all ships instantly. Each ship would have received this upgrade during their next yard period, which for Lexington was early 1945.

My language was backwards. Meant to say the 44 lex would have notches.

I found a photo tagged as the Lexington but there were the letters "LEX" on the rear deck. From my estimation this must have been post WW2.

This is all I have, all from USS ESSEX at various time periods, Except the last one from the Roosevelt. There are a couple pics in the book "On Deck, USS Lexington" Squadron too.















I've seen a drawing someplace too, but can't find it yet. Will keep on looking.

Hello all, this has probably been discussed before somewhere on this thread. But I have a question about those towers (flight, radio, etc.?) that line the deck forward and aft of the island on the Yorktown CV-10; on some pictures and the trumpeter kit show that there are 5 (3 forward and 2 aft). But I have seen on others where it only has 2 forward of the island. Where more added later in '44 or vise versa?
