One last dry fit of major components before some painting. Naganami top, Kazagumo bottom. The base that they are resting on is warped, not the hulls themselves.

Dan,

Your work is inspirational. You're making me want to go back to work on my old as dirt old Fujimi Akizuki.

Super work as always Dan! I'll have to get that paravane/minesweeping set. Its the only one that I'm missing so far. The set with the 13mm guns are superb as well.

Wow, thx guys. PG - don't go there. So many better options. I'm doing this because there are no other options. :-)

Question... What is the size of brass rods used in your mast? And where do you find them?

Special Shapes Co., K&S Engineering & Detail Associates all make brass rod. For DDs, I use .016" rod for the forward leg, and .014" for the trailing rods.

Amazing work Dan. Simply amazing. Will you have any of them done for MosquitoCon?

I hope so. My life has taken a big detour in recent weeks due to some family health stuff. Fingers crossed that things return to normal soon. That said, I did spray paint linoleum decks and funnel black last night. Then, I passed out for the nite.

Yeah, I do a lot of that.

I hope things work out for the best for you and the family.

Thx, Marty. I think it will.

Before I started painting, I was able to obtain the FlyHawk PE set for the PitRoad Yugumos at half price, so that I could use that set's TT trolley rails to improve the full hull versions on Kazegumo. Had to cut it into four sections to make it work. Nice PE set, btw.

The last two months have really been a bust as far as modeling goes. Illness has felled my household, one after another, like dominoes. In all cases, at least twice. Mostly flu and upper respiratory infections. Any work I've advanced has been done in a fog.

Here, the main decks were sprayed with linoleum paint, then taped off. Of course, I forgot to expose the rear TT trolley rails at the stern so, I must rework those. I also used the new FineMolds 1/700 paravane winches. Unfortunately, after glueing them down, I've come to the conclusion that their configuration is suspect. At the very least (with the assessment help of another board member), these units seem to be molded with no housings, just inner workings. And, too large. This was most unexpected. I'm going to re-attach the orignal pieces as they seem far more correct, and properly scaled. I will still use the new FM paravane davits - those seem really good.

The TT reload gantries are from Rainbow and specifically designed for 1/700 Yugumos. They are exquisite.

I've also errected the mainmasts. There were two versions for the Yugumos. The three lead ships (Yugumo, Kazegumo & Makigumo) used the same simple tripod arrangement as the proceeding Asashios and Kageros. Subsequent ships had a revised tripod arrangement where the tripod was more compact and closer to the centerline. Also, two crisscrossing yardarms were used instead of one straight across. I don't know why this arrangement came about. I do know it was also used for the Akizukis so, there must have been some perceived advantage.

I've also attached some scratch-built PE cradles for lumber along the aft deckhouse, starboard side.

If they ever get that far. As I was cleaning up last nite after some work, I dropped Kazegumo. Just a couple of inches, but enough to cause mast damage. The fatigue factor is really derailing me. I'm very frustrated.

Sorry to hear that Dan. Fatique gets us all. Mine is Testors liquid cement. I have spilt every single bottle i ever owned. And if you have parts laying around that are in the spill. Then kiss them good bye. I'm starting to think the bottles are cursd or designed to tall. Ether way is sucks when your tired and make a moron mistake. Maybe something good will come out of it. I know everytime i spill it, my work bench get a full cleaning and that also helps.

Keep the faith, my friend. You'll get there.

Been there, done that, when it comes to dropping the model. I call it "battle damage".
