it's 1/72 scale

The weathering is just paint chips with dark grey paint, a medium grey wash (or several) and the rust done with a very thin light rust wash. finished with some "dirty water" washes (the dirty water in the jar I clean my brushes in). used brushes and fingers.

Still have to figure out what to do with the steel (grey) decks.

I use acrylic paint only (mostly Vallejo).

Wooden deck weathering...dry pigments...rubbed in.

Nothing sophisticated :joker:

Oh, I know the scale is bigger. I won't even TOUCH a 1/72 right now...

Well, such "unsophisticated" techniques certainly have quite an effect!

Thanks a lot!

It's funny, I'm more affraid of the smaller scales. I already have problems working with 1/72 scale PE. When I see you guys fiddling around with tiny 1/350 and 1/700 PE stuff...it scares me.

Since I'll join the 1/350 battleship group build with the Dragon 1943 Scharnhorst...I'll keep an eye on your build for sure.

Cheers!

Rob :wave_1:

Thanks guys!

I just couldn't resist to do a project not needed yet...the 20 mm Oerlikons. Some final touches to go.

Image

Great Little Ships (GLS) PE stuff....nice oerlikons(1 oerlikon=29 parts), dreadful manual :censored_2:

I better not glue them on yet....they'll hinder me when I do the bridge items (voice pipes...11 or so, railings, dodgers, splinter padding and what more). Expended shell bags not included, so I have to scratch them from "green stuff".

Bridge side supports this week...honestly.

More soon :wave_1:

Rob

That Oerlikon does look very nice. Good idea not to glue it on yet. Just put it safely aside in view as a motivator to do the first things first. Cant wait to see more.

Minor update...
Image
Finally finished the Oerlikons (dry fit), made the expended shell bags, but the 2 part epoxy clay stuff is still curing.
Also busy with the PE ammo lockers for the oerlikons, but they're just boxes...hardly worth the effort.
Made the 2 small H-funnels in front of the 4" gun bandstand (they show on Campanula photos).

Image
And scratching the bridge supports and making loads of voice pipes.

All time consuming, but not very exciting jobs.

More soon :wave_1:

Finished the bridge support and hedgehog armour plate (both still a dry fit).

Image
Bridge support made from H and T strips and Evergreen sheet styrene, hedgehog armour plate is the kit part...slightly modified.

Received the PE pipe rail stanchions, so I can continue working on the bridge, but I'll soon move aft and I'll focus on the depth charge throwers and stowage...and carley floats...and...pffff...sooooo much to do :faint:

More soon :wave_1:

Replacing this kit part kept me busy today...

Image
The railing behind the compass platform...kit part.

Here we go....from 1 to 24 parts

Image
GLS stanchions and 0,4 mm brass wire

Image
Aluminium foil canvas dodgers. (this is 38 mm long)

And the result
Image
With the lockers and voice pipe.

In between, I started to scratch the splinter padding from 2 part modelling clay (Games Workshop green stuff).
The kit parts have the wrong size and shape. The GLS padding looks nice, but it's white metal...I think they're way too heavy to plaster fragile PE railing with them...I need 18 and I don't want to see it all come down like a collapsing house of cards.

Thanks guys!

My wife just said: "Oh...it's almost ready, isn't it?"
:faint:

When I started to explain about depth charges, scratch building the 4" gun and bandstand, the pom-pom, anchor winch, carley floats, mast, rigging, weathering...and what more...she shook her head and wandered off.

I guess I have to bribe her with flowers Image ....my dining table shipyard is in mortal danger :Mad_6:

more soon :wave_1:

Finished the other command bridge railings with dodgers, the PE ammo lockers, searchlight / signal lamp platforms, most of the voice pipes, modified the direction lights and made mounts and supports for them. Also made the last batch of spinter paddings
Image

I can now make the outer railings with dodgers and the spinter padding. Other bridge items to make are the flag lockers, staircase railing and radar tower ladder. Will also scratch or modify the searchlights and signal lamps.

Maybe I can finish the bridge this week

more soon :wave_1:

Really nice work! If you have the time would you mind posting a paint list of the brand and colours that you used?
