Hi all,

this week is big completion time, it seems. Illustrious was built from the Airfix kit with the full WEM PE detail set; additional Airfix aircraft and WEM resin upgrade for the Sea Kings were used. Auxiliary fuel tanks for the Harriers were designed by Frank Ilse, they are available via BMK in machined metal. The ship is depicted in 2005 a very short time before the Sea Harrier was retired.

Best regards

Frank

Good looking model, well done
Just one tiny observation. The red and white line down the middle part of the flight deck. I wonder if it should run through on the same line across the lift and adjacent area.

Is that last picture the actual ship or the model?
It's hard to see the difference so I'd think you did a great job!

Greetings Josse

Thank you all!

Decaling the flightdeck was one of the more, er, interesting parts of this project, especially the area around the elevators. From this perspective, the goof is most apparent. I did revisit the issue and thinking about the trouble I had with the decals, I decided to best leave things as they are.

Best regards

Frank

A very nice looking build.
I remember when this kit came out from Airfix all of the complaining about it, this is the second one I have seen finished and they have both looked good. looks good enough that is ion my "to buy" list along with some p/e and careful construction I hope mine will look as good as this one!
Go Airfix, do more ships!

Thank you all for your kind words re my model, it was great meeting and talking to some of you at Telford, a weekend overflowing with input and - as always - passing in a bit of a blur.

Kind regards

FRank

A very nice build indeed. I hope my Illustrious will look half as good !!

Would you be able to post a link for the Harrier drop tanks, I have searched high and low but can not find them at all.
Many Thanks

John

Thank you all!

I´m currently not at liberty to post more as the only remaining German print magazine will have an article on the model in the foreseeable future, and their policy is not to precede that on the net.

I´ll submit a full review on mw.com ASAP.

Kind regards

Frank
