Re: 1/350 CVN-65 USS Enterprise 2001
Thanks James, Nicolas, and Jim!
Well I finally attached the bow section to the rest of the hull of the ship and started working on the port side CIWS sponson. I had to modify the kit part to get the corrected shape for this sponson. I had actually made another one of these a while back, but I got the shape wrong initially. The one you see in the photos is my latest attempt to get the angles and shape a little more accurate where it needs to be. I still have a bit of work for this area, just thought I would share what I had so far.

Dear DWD, you are really like 3-D Printer who copy what he saws. The detail thhat you add everytime is just amazing also like a expert-guide for people like me, who plan to build Enterprise after 2000.
Again well done

Hi Doug!
I am always happy to see this WIP move along!
Nice work as usual! What else can I say? You do fantastic work, so from now on, instead of repeating the same words, every time I check out your build, I will just add this smiley
, and it will mean that you again presented another biblical step in creating what is one of the most detailed and accurate Enterprise-s in the world. So here it is:
Keep it up!
Cheers: Laci

Re: 1/350 CVN-65 USS Enterprise 2001
Doug, your online build is inspiring. I purchased this kit last year but due to moves and such didn't get chance to start it or do research on what AM is out there for it. I sure am glad I saw your work here and I was finally able to login to comment. I'll be following along to a wonderful build and learn from it. In fact, I'm already learned a lot and can't wait to see the finish product.

Re: 1/350 CVN-65 USS Enterprise 2001
Thanks for the comments Laci, Nicolas, Mike, and Backatit. Sorry I haven't updated in a little while. I am presently without a digital camera to upload any photos and is the reason I have not updated. As soon as I get one, I will. I haven't gotten much further in the build since my last post for that reason. I appreciate all the comments and you guys following along. Hopefully I can resume soon! Thanks again!

Re: 1/350 CVN-65 USS Enterprise 2001
WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I finally got a camera and am back in business. I should be posting more on this build shortly. I have been working on building a wooden display base for this monster and figuring out how i will be hooking up the lighting for the hangar deck, and where all the wiring will run to. Since I will be moving onto the hangar deck next and the hangar floor will be fixed into place soon enough, I will have to get the mounting areas prepped so that it can be secured to my wooden base at a later time. I will post pics as soon as I can.

Glad to hear. I know I need to get mine fix. The zoom mode froze up on mine. Just might have to grab a newer body. Anyway, let the show begin...

Re: 1/350 CVN-65 USS Enterprise 2001
HAHA!! Thanks for all the comments guys. I like all the little woohoo dudes running back and forth across all the posts. Here is the wooden display base for my Enterprise that I built. I actually had to build it quite a bit larger than I originally thought, due to how wide the ship will be once the antennae are in the lowered position and laid out to the side of the ship. I also left a half inch rise around the perimeter that will help house the clear acrylic case that I will be building to place over the top. I will be staining the base with a dark color, probably ebony as I like the look of the almost black base with the ship mounted on it. I haven't stained it yet, as you can see, just thought I would show some in progress photos since I can again!
hahahaha

Re: 1/350 CVN-65 USS Enterprise 2001
Doug, good to see new pics. Looks like the new camera is working good. That base has to be pretty large because it's making that bottom hull look tiny. What's the size if that sucker?

Re: 1/350 CVN-65 USS Enterprise 2001
Ya, it is freaking huge. It measures at 43" inches in length and about 16" inches in width. I had to go wider because once the flight deck is installed and the antennae are in the lowered position on both the port and starboard sides, it will be needed so that there will be enough clearance for the case it will be placed in. I took into account how much space would be needed to clear everything once it was all installed. Quite a monster.
