Homemake water?

Hi,

I am finishing my rebuild of the kumano and would like to set her in calm waters where she is reprovisioning. Is there any home made methods for the water? I have heard about using oil paints (but they take centuries to dry), and tissue paper, or even tin foil. I really don't want to spend a fortune on acrylic gels. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Hi there,

Acrylic gel really is the way to go, especially for ships at anchor. It won't cost you a vast amount and a 400g pot will give enough to do the bases for 15 bases in 1/700 scale.

And the watercolour paper a la Baumann is v good too. I use it.

I agree with both the previous chaps, I used the same for this model which hasn't hit the gallery yet but the same method turned out well.

I just viewed a cene where the water was made using the crumpled ol' aluminum foil and plaster routine, after which the 'water' was painted. Depending how realistic one desires to be, I had a modeling friend who would take snapshots of hulls traveling thru water (color photos) and then study them to get the various shades of green and blue and aqua and white. In the end, he had an extensive file of color resources showing a few dozen diferent mechanics and color variations of different wakes and bow waves.

You can get colored sheet plastic that works well for calm water.
