Re: 1/100 HMS Renown (1942)
i have a silly question here , do you want your ship to make smoke ? ?
be inspirational today , you might never get that chance tomorrow

Hello Kevin and Diederick,
thanks for your posts!
I have already started some parts of the smokw apparatus - see some posts above: a brass tank to be placed in the hangar on the same level as the two smoke generators. These get placed down under the funnels on a "windchest" with a pc-fan to press the smoke outside.
I will continue this when Renown is back on her keel - right now shes upside down for final painting her bottom.
Best regards!
Joachim

Re: 1/100 HMS Renown (1942)
Dear friends,
the 1/100 scale meeting at Gelsenkirchen on 21st September is coming closer very fast - Renown is registered for maiden trip.
Disadvantageous, time is running due to some family celebrations and a friends sickness whats all stressing my time. But here is a little progress of my tries to make Renown presentable...
Best regards from (sitll-) Dortmund!

Don't rush her, you've always got next years shows to show her off to the world.
Mistakes happen when you try to finish by a certain date.
Good luck for the rest of the build.
Regards
Richard

Hi Richard and Martin!
Thank you for your kind comments! Dont worry, I wont "finish" her in 3 weeks:-) Just want to get her waterproof and ready to go for trials. I guess "to finish" will mean a couple of years due to my limited time...
Best regards from Dortmund!

Dear friends,
the next step is done, the last deck is planked. Hope I get the superstructure screwed together until the fleet meeting on 21st of September in Gelsenkirchen...
Works continue on the funnels, so next update will be coming soon!
Best regards from Dortmund!

Re: 1/100 HMS Renown (1942)
Dear friends,
today was really great: First time "all ahead", Renown on the water bigger than Mommies pond. Its been the "Flottentreffen" in Gelsenkirchen, almost 50 ships in 1/100 scale and many others, as a Graf Spee in 1/50!!
Renown performed very well, except a little lazyness in turning. But hey, shes a big lady with almost 36 kilogrammes;-)
She is hungry, too, consuming 17Ah in a bit less than an hour. So I will take out one of the to leadbarrels and add another accumulator. So more power and time - as many functions are still to be added as smoke, position lights and maybe movement of the 11 in barrels. Turning of turrets A and B is already working very well!
So have a look and enjoy!
Happy regards from Dortmund!

She looks great on the water!!
Did she really consume 17Amps per hour?
In that case I think you should check the alignment of your shafts and engines and if that is perfect you should buy yourself some more powerful engines.
I have heard reports of models consuming up to 10Amps on full power but 17Amps is really way to much.
It could well indicate that your engines don't really have the power to turn the props around.
Greetings Josse

Re: 1/100 HMS Renown (1942)
Hi Josse!
Baie dankie you for your advice! Maybe I should try it with bigger engines. I decided for rather small ones, because I didnt want Renown to be a racer. I guess top speed yesterday was almost true to scale, perhaps a little bit more.
What about stronger engines AND more power by a second lead accumulator?

Hi Joachim,
An extra battery is never a bad thing for sure.
You could also try a gearbox with a slightly bigger engine to hold true to the scale top speed.

Nice pics of fine models, danke dafr!
Is it possible to see some more pics of your "Baustelle"
? I'm asking because i'd like to build a Renown myself in the future, not before 2015. If you have some spare time and could post some pictures of the hull, especially of the torpedo bulge because i'm concerned how to do them. Thanks in advance! I wish you much fun with your beautiful model.

Hi Bjrn,
lets see what I have found concerning older pics...
I tried to copy the bulges right together with the frames and decided not to add them later on. Covered with glassfibre it was a lot of filling and sanding to achieve a sharp result.
Keep on searching for some more pics!
Best regards
Joachim
