Hi Simon,

I have the kit and could take photos if you want - anything in particular?

I haven't built it yet, but based on some test fitting and looking at the detail and moulding quality, its as good as any resin I've ever seen - and better than plastic.

Simon,

for some weeks ago I`ve made a kit review for Modellversium. Maybe that helps a little bit!
http://www.modellversium.de/kit/artikel ... gin=sparte

Actually I have the kit in my modelyard, but, unfortunately, less time to work on it. What I`ve done is cleaning all the parts, fitting the superstructure to the hull etc.! Like the other 1/350 scale WEM kits I have in my collection (HMS Starling, HMS Abdiel) this is another great kit with a lot of fine detailed and clean casted parts.

Anybody know of any good reference material on the type 23? HMS Argyll in particular?

Cheers Phil,

I managed to get a hold of a stack of them on HMS Argyll although if you have 1 of the inside of the QD it would be appreciated.

******************

I have been working on a Fleetscale Type 23 1/96 scale build, this is my 1st time modelling any type of large scale ship as a semi scratch build. I do have a 1/350 Bismarck on the go aswell but that has taken rather a back seat to this, 1 of my favourite ships alongside the Leander (my next build).

Thus I thought I would do a blog on it as I went to help fellow 1st timers as I will blog my mistakes aswell as any hints I come across. I came up with the idea as I wanted somewhere I could keep all my stuff together so I can go over it all for my next build.

If your interested please have a look, as I say I am new to this type of modelling thus any suggestions are more than welcome. Please feel free to leave a comment on the blog.

Hi all,

I've recently ordered a 1/72 Duke-class hull from Fleetscale. Right now I'm collecting references for my build. I've already gathered some usefull pics from the net, but still looking for good detail shots. I was wondering if you guys could help me. Any information would be appreciated.

Peter

I think I'd raise the thread - I just got the Trumpeter's HMS Montrose kit, for my first modern ship build (will fetch WEM PE soon) Did anyone yet touched that kit or those of her sisters (Kent and Westminster?) How accurate are these?

IMO the Trumpy Type 23 is one of the best kit they have done. The only error I could find was that they included only two decoy launchers alongside the bridge structure ,instead of the four there should be .I don`t know about the hull below the waterline ,as I only do waterlines now .Here`s my offering of HMS Iron Duke :

Thats an impressive build, Phil! Which PE or resin sets did you use? I also see the new turret on your ship, is it resin? Also, were the decals self-printed or some of other boxings also offers the Iron Duke decals?

Hi Petros,
A WIP is here:
viewtopic.php?f=59&t=118915&hilit=iron+duke

I forgot mention that the worst part included in the kit was the awful PE.I replaced it with a WEM set ,which is an absolute must!

Good luck with your build

Cheers Phil

I'm planning to start building the Trumpeter Montrose kit as Iron Duke soon. Are there any dry dock photos to confirm the propeller orientation of any of the ships in the class?

Does anyone know of any books on the Type 23?
I have several of Leo Marriott's books for other RN ships but there doesn't seem to be one on the T-23.

Post subject: Type23 Flight Deck Codes
PostPosted: Sat Apr 19, 2014 4:34 am
I am collecting the entire Royal Navy of today in 1/1200 and 1/1250 (sad as there are now not that many ships). The bulk of the fleet is Triang Minic which I am slowly repainting with the exception of HMS Ocean which is Albatross (whose cost is more than all the Minic Type 45 and Type 23's put together). Minic only have produced 8 of the Type 23's so I have duplicated five of them which I am re numbering whilst painting. However I can not find the Flight Deck lettering for those ships Minic did not make, could someone advise me the correct flight deck lettering for all thirteen Type 23's. Many thanks Andy

Was thinking of building one of the 1/350 Trumpy Type 23s as one of the Chilean ships like Almirante Cochrane. Does anyone know of any specific changes that would be required?

The most obvious differences between the UK and Chilean Navy 23s is that Chilean ships had the Military Satcom domes and the ESM aerials at the top of the mast removed.

The Chilean ships probably have probably SH-32 Cougar (Eurocopter AS-532SC Cougar) instead of the Lynx and Merlin of the British ships.

The colour is a big difference too.

Thank you all for the help. Removing items is much easier than having to scratch build additions! Did not know about the helicopter, and was surprised that it is actually smaller than the Merlin. Anybody make a resin one?

Regarding paint, it looks to me darker than Royal Navy Type 23s? Maybe a shade darker than the current USN haze gray?
