Made up the deck bolts and deck cleats for attaching blocks and making fast the lines for the RAS around the ship. The base plates for the eye bolts are punched .5mm sheet with a pre painted PE eye drilled into it through the deck. The cleats are made similar with the base plates being out of .5mm sheet. Glued to the deck, holes drilled through plates and cleat bars pinned through those. Should give ample strength hopefully.

A few shots of Brisbane at the sail this morning. I've only got some moored shots but a mate took some of her flat tack which I'll post soon.

A dramatic start to the day with a couple showers though cleared up for some nice sailing despite a few heavy gusts. Brisbane healed to about 15degrees doing a hard turn with an occasional gusty 20-25 Km/hr wind. With the full mast and fittings she does handle differently but still very stable in the wind. More pics to follow.

Dramatic light first thing! Could have used Nav lights!and bridge lights. Rob's harbour tug just out of focus has her halogen spotties on which you can just make out. Looked very effective

Thanks for the invite to do that, but I'll pass on it until such time as I actually have the time, space, resources and capability to actually scratchbuild ships!

Y'know what would be interesting? A 1/72 scale wiff of the Z- or H-class planned German battleship(s), whichever is bigger...

They would be a sight! Rob's on that path with his Scharnhorst! He also has a Kirov missile cruiser and has plans fora USS Ronald Regan! With a USS Constellation on its way over here also I think we'll need a bigger lake! I'd still like to build the De ruyter 1942 but that's pushing it for me at 2.6m

G'day Bruce! Yep it's Roosevelt! Haha must have had Russ's Churchill on my mind when posting.

I'll have to get deeper in the water next sail and get some shots looking back to shore. Both at jackadder and the other lake down in Rocko we sail at were always facing the sun so most pics will always be of the same side of the ships! I do like the shot with vampire alongside. I should have got ted to bring her in closer - being low down without swimming and having a wife angle lens vampire looks further than what she was. I'd like to get actually vampire, one of the FFG's, DE's (we have a Swan and Torrens over here) and an Anzac with Brisbane in line. We do have a C class ww2 destroyer but she's british rather than australian - so we can get a nice photo of the progression of RAN ships just need a perth class DDG to complete the 60's to present set

Being making up the frames for the helo nets. These are actually square bar and not round tubing so my initial plan of using brass rod and cutting a groove bending to shape to keep it as strong as I could as it would have only been two pieces per frame compared to four as it ended up was thrown out. It would have bugged me anyway knowing that they are square tube.

Each piece was cut out and pinned and glued to shape, went together quite fast once I started and have now painted them up and attached to the hull. They are in the flight ops position of being folded down rather than being folded up. A couple reasons for doing it this way, the frames were made a little longer so they could actually be inserted into the hull so more support and I'm planning on having my seahawk's rotors rotating so she'll be correct for an unfolded seahawk Once the port side frames are in ill paint up some fine fly screen in white and tie them on.

Oh almost forgot! For only $25 I found a 1/72 RC blackhawk! It's IR controlled so doesn't work in daylight as it's meant to only be indoors but should be something fun during a static display I'm sure should be possible to change the receiver over so might try that later down the track.

Next to a sprue of a 1/72 seahawk and the fuselage is spot on size wise

Decided to start the static seahawk MR-60Romeo by kit bashing a tamiya SH-60B seahawk.
Unlike the previous (still in service) SB-70s seahawk used by the RAN there's almost less items which need to be changed from the original SH-60B the main difference being the large sonar on the bottom of the fuselage is the same as the standard USN version so it's a nice change not having to make a new version of that. Mainly the base of the tail the arrangement of lights UHF and HF aerials and pitot tubes are a slightly different shape or in a different spot plus a few more vents. Should be straight forward.

Pretty much started the tamiya kit OOB for the cockpit and interior apart from the fittings in the main cabin which were left out. This whole assembly I painted black as with the interior of the the two fuselage pieces. Next came going the two halves together... I haven't built the hasegawa or the newer Itelari seahawk kits... But this tamiya is a right bugger. The detail I'm happy with as per usual tamiya clean, close to accurate for the kit version and flash free. The fit however was absolutely shocking! But perseverance and clothes pegs got them together. Quite a bit of putty needed throughout the large joins but cleaned up nicely.




After joining the halves with the interior added the main sonar and other items which are either the same or can be utilised for the Romeo variant. Then removed most of the under tail fuselage apart from the smaller dome - looking at the pics of the RAN Romeo this could be a touch larger but will do for my uses.

Starting to add romeo specific additions to the fuselage out of plastic. Also the winch is shape is flat and with sharper angles where the kit piece is a round tube with rounded ends, again this was an easy modification.


Another small addition is a little extension on the tail above the flaps with two new lights.

Apart from adding the forward IR camera to its base the main modifications have been done. The exhaust ends will need to be reshaped slightly as the Romeos flare out a tad more and the engine intakes are also slightly different and more streamlined.






What it will hopefully look like once finished.

Nice start on the Seahawk mate! I prefer the Hasegawa and Hobbyboss Kits (the Hasegawa's are great quality and the Hobbyboss are cheap and still good quality kits!) I have 3 built Seahawks plus about 4 Unbuilt and enough different USN decals for a dozen different Sqadrons, Currently converting an Italeri Blackhawk into an MH60S Knighthawk CSAR (2x M60's out fwd side windows and 2x 0.50 cals out main doors!)....with nav lights and working (rotating) rotors and have an Olimp conversion set for an MH60 R with Hellfires

Thanks Bruce, I've seen your helo's and they're awesome! Annoyingly they had a hasegawa sh60b but it was $10 more... Next time I'm just getting the hasegawa unless they release a ready made mh-60r

It's fun nonetheless anyway transforming a basic kit and hopefully worth the extra effort, the link for the leds would be great! The rotor I'll have running on this also, just waiting for the micro motors to arrive. The motor will sit in the helo cabin itself wired through the deck to a battery. I'd like to make a second helo for when we display and have it hovering above the vertrep on the f'cstle lowering some sort of cargo. Plan is to do the same with the motor inside with the batt wires coming out below the fuselage disguised as the lift cable. Will need a solid or strong enough though still thin steel rod or something similar hidden with these leading to the cargo bundle on the deck. I'd probably have to have the rotors only running at a low rpm so it won't be too unstable. Not sure if it would work but will give it a go

Romeo ready for paint prep. Pretty much all the mods I plan on doing to convert it to the Romeo minus the hellfire missiles and cables on the rotors which I'll add after paint.

Initial base coat. This has a rather blue tint to it though match the new RAN Romeos colour scheme with low viz markings.




The windows need a clean up but I'll give them a wash of tamiya 'smoke' to give a slightly tinted look.



As I'm not an aircraft modeler these aren't in my usual area of expertise but I have enjoyed a change.
