Re: 1/200 USS Missouri
The steel recoil slides of the barrels came out particularly nice! On the ship the bottom circular edge of the turret slightly overlaps and actually hangs over the Barbett to provide a rain/water seal.
From your build I am certain that many other modes will be built to a higher standard after seeing the construction of your ship!
Regards. Tom

Kelly,
Extremely nice work!! I too am impressed with the 16" gun barrel treatment - looks like the real thing. You've set the bar a couple more notches higher on this one

Wow....
Amazing work. Very encouraging.
Are you using the 1945 revision of MS-22? I noticed you have some light grey hatch covers and such. Nice contrast!
Cheers,
Tim W.

Hi Kelly
Really enjoyed reading this post which I've just stumbled across trying to find out a bit of information before I start my own 1/200 Trumpeter Missouri. Your build looks superb by the way.
Being in the UK we appear to have much less resources available to us than you guys in the US. I've collected a fair amount of data but am struggling with one aspect which you may be able to help with.
I've tried everywhere to try and work out what all the holes in the hull are for. I'm assuming that most of them are bilge-water outlets, other types of water outlets / overflows etc. However in one of your photos I think I've spotted what look like a couple of portholes towards the stern of the ship. The Mark 1 PE upgrade set makes no mention of any portholes in the hull so I was wondering if you had any info on the location of the portholes (if any) so I can fit the PE "eybrows" in the hull if necessary.
Keep up the good work, I'm in awe of your skills.
Kind regards
John

Re: 1/200 USS Missouri
No Portholes in the hull. There a number of threads on building this ship or her sisters at various stages in their lives. There is a lot of knowledge available here for you which everyone is happy to share! Photos of many details of the modern ships are available which may or may not be useful for your project.
A decision you are the one to make is which ship and at what time. Even for the late WWII configuration the kit has some issues with accuracy which you may or may not want to engage. Earlier is better if you desire to do such modifications.
Hank Strub and Jason Channel are also doing nice builds here and Randy M is working on an aft hull modification. Over in the online scratch area I have a thread which is on pause for the summer while I work away from home and workbench, "Modern BB63, my build".
Many different approaches, all informative and interesting!
Welcome aboard. Tom

Re: 1/200 USS Missouri
Thanks for the welcome and the information Tom.
My aim is to build her in 32 22D camouflage but am still researching the patterns and as to when she was repainted in blue with the blue deck.
From what I've read so far on the forum there appears tob a lot of knowledgeable guys with some superb builds on the go. I've no doubt I'll be requiring further info as I progress but thanks for the information so far.
I'm hoping to get across to the states later this year and hopefully visit either the Wisconsin or the New Jersey - unfortunately I can't stretch to a visit to Hawaii !! - and take a load of photos and measurements which should help with the build.
Thanks once again
John

Re: 1/200 USS Missouri
According to my Floating Drydock source, the Mo was repainted into MS-22 right before it went to join the Pacific Fleet in January 1945. So prior to that (e.g., during trials) it was in MS32 22d.John_Mc wrote:Thanks for the welcome and the information Tom.

Except for the fact that they're in mid-war tricolor scheme instead of glossy sea blue!

I refer you to Stillwell's "Battleship Missouri", page 77. My build is October 1945.Goodwood wrote:Except for the fact that they're in mid-war tricolor scheme instead of glossy sea blue!

Surprisingly I did find a photo of a Seahawk being recovered with the three color paint scheme. A bit unusually the float was painted in the light gray!

Re: 1/200 USS Missouri
Hi Tom,
Is very nice to see a Missouri soo much well executed in this large scale, explendid job you're doing.
Comparing main turrets from your kit with Kagero's new book plans and thats from Tamiya kit. My conclusion is Tamiya's main turrets has a very wrong shape.
Best Regards,
Ricardo
