Hey CCGSailor,
Thanks for reply, however, I just searched every possible (I think) Dragon website and couldn't find anything regarding a 1/350 Atlanta Cruiser. What am I missing?

Here is a scan of the upcoming DML/Dragon USS Atlanta kit in the 1/350 models section of the 2013 catalogue.

Image

Notice the top left is labelled SmartKit. Perhaps you should should check in the Dragon's Smartkit line. I think the Smartkit maybe more in the realm of Dragon's CyberHobby line.

This was scanned from page 50 of Dragon/DML's 2013 model catalogue.

Here's a link to their catalogue from last year: http://dragon-models.com/d-m-fx/images/ ... atalog.PDF
Atlanta's on page 50.

They haven't posted the 2014/2015 catalogue online yet, but according to those who have seen it, it's still in there.

I believe we can put the 1/350 (Plastic) Atlanta class light cruiser on the list. It seems Dragon isn't quite sure what models they have on the market.

The poll has some surprising results - search under sea, register and then create your idea. With each vote you can specify scale/price/construction method. Scanning through the ideas it seems that all is not lost for ship modelling. The poll has links to facebook and twitter, but these are not mandatory.

Noop,

it's not a ship's success that makes it famous, it's the drama. So PoW is much more dramatic than DoY, apparently. If Scharnhorst had seen chance to sink DoY instead, the story would surely have been different. :eyebrows:
Similarly: Titanic is much, much more dramatic than Normandie, or QM, or United States. That's why we have tons of Titanic kits, and not a single one of Normandie (for example), and very minimalistic ones of the other two.

Right on spot: Yamato is more famous then Musashi because of the suicide mission were it was sunk.
RN Roma is the only 1/350 of that class, albeit having done close to nothing along the war, butbeing sunk in an unusual and drammatic way. Career wise, Vittorio Veneto would have been the logic choice, but emotionally Roma comes to the mind.
Arizona did nothing in the war compared with many other USBB but her sinking is likend to war with Japan, and the same is true for Bismark, which outsells Tirpitz 10:1, Repulse was done, instead of Renown, the Graf Spee instead of Lutzow; Kirishima is outselling any other IJN ship other then Yamatos.
KGV was chosen over the DOY because of relation with the Bismark hunt (and so did Prinz Eugen), but for a ship to became tasty choice for the plastic kit industry, it has to have rise emotions.
If I should guess among my Poll choices, (Cavour - Viribus Unitis) the only viable targets would be Giulio Cesare and Szent Istvàn: the first for the long distance shelling at Punta Stilo and as Novorossijsk, her tragic sinking at Sevastopol (meaning it could rises Russian interest), and the other one for being sunk by MAS attack on June 1918. Neither of the two gave their names to the class, or had particularly successful service among their sisters: Doria and Duilio were much better ships, fighting on both sides of the conflict being highly prized for their excellent AA escorting convoys to and from Africa and becoming Marina Militare flagships after 1948, but I wouldn't expect then to be produced because nothing "dramatic" ever happened to them.

My only question about this poll is why WWII HMS Ark Royal is not among this list? It's a nice ship with a good historical background and until now is missing a Royal Navy WWII Aircraft carrier among injected 1/350 kits. :please:

some Italian warships have nice camos that shine in a collection : light green fishtails in dark grey background ! strange look, and questions rising from people looking your shelves.

Back in Mar. (2014) I wrote : "I believe we can put the 1/350 (Plastic) Atlanta class light cruiser on the list. It seems Dragon isn't quite sure what models they have on the market". Well bless my soul, it appears that Freetime Hobbies has an inside track as they are anticipating a release (according to their website) of the Dragon Smartkit USS Juneau CL-52 in the foreseeable future. CHEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any PE vendors on board?

Now Hear Me !

I think that someone or some company should take a look at a 1/305th modern Submarine Tender Line. AS-36, 37, 39, 40 and 41 were all on the same hull with some minor superstructure differences. Two of these are still in commission, Emory S. Land AS-39 and Frank Cable AS-40. You could also build the Destroyer Tenders of the period (Same Hull).

Advantages:

1. 1 Kit could produce 10 or more variations.

2. Thousands of men and women cycled through the past 35 years,

3. It will bring a lot of new blood to the hobby.

4. Advertising via internet and organizations real easy.

5. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I hope someone gets a project like this started!

OK: I'd like to see one of the BBs at Surigao. I'll assume that we think that CV6 is coming out in 1/350: it is history's most successful warship and deserves a kit in the most important scale. I'll cry if it's 1/200. If not, I'll assume its absence on the list was oversight.
The ship that does belong there is Washington. Maybe I give too much emphasis to a ship's history. But if that's an important factor, Washington's absence in 1/350 really hurts. BBs were designed to kill BBs - it was bad timing that made them floating artillery batteries and flak platforms. So, in WWII, how many BBs sunk BBs? The answer is - not many. Bismarck, KGV, Rodney, Duke of York, the Surigao oldies and Washington. The world has never lacked a Bismarck - there's something about the KM that brings out the juices, just as LW aircraft and Wehrmacht tanks do in their field. Guess the 3d Empire was like Vader's - high tech and neat uniforms. I guess you can make a KGV - class of 41 - and a DYork 1943 with a couple of hundred $ in PE and a wizard's hand. But no Rodney - despite the fact that it has looks only a mother could love and cries "build me." (I guess Nelson class is on the list - late vote then.)
But Washington: think about it. It sunk another BB under conditions that could be considered very close to even odds (granted Kirishima was the inferior vessel). It also did it at a time when the USN needed a big win in the worst way. We'll never know what Combined Fleet would have done if the engagement on November 15 had turned into a major IJN victory. (Say SDakota and Washington had picked up torpedoes the way our cruisers did at Tassaforanga a few days later - that would have left us very weak indeed.) We do know that the loss of two BBs and the annihilation of the convoy triggered the decision in Tokyo to withdraw from Guadalcanal - giving the US a spectacular victory and ending any suspense concerning the Buna campaign. In retrospect this outcome did not decide victory in the Pacific War, but it did allow an American victory in 1945 - a full year before anyone in high places thought possible. The historical consequences of that are impossible to calculate. And Washington put an enemy BB under the water - doing what a battleship was supposed to do and exactly at the right time. The ship deserves a model.

Is there any good reason not to see a single French cruiser or BB in 350 on the list? What about l'"Algérie" or the "Terrible" class? Strasbourg and Dunkerque are not appealing to you? Talk about segregation! :cool_1: :cool_1:

Eric, would it be possible to make Washington from the 1/350 Trumpeter North Carolina? Agree about her historical importance.

Been told that it is "possible" but very difficult. There are people on this list that could probably build it out of legos, but heroic modeling on a serious scale takes serious time and a lot of experience. Ships of that scale had a multitude of small differences - the opposite of liberty ships. Say you want to build a KGV to match it's 1941 (Bismarck) garb. You have to shell out about $150 on Pontos super PE and use it on the Tamiya Prince of Wales - and that's to make the same ship. I suppose in the real world, you could make NC, find the right decals for a name and number, and call it Washington. The average fan might not know - but every BB junkie would. But model makers dance to their own drummer - I've heard there's finally a 1/350 Yorktown out there finally but no Enterprise yet. Think that's going to change, but the fact that both kits haven't been available in 1:350 since say 1970 is hard to figure.
Eric

Well, I posted that list a few years ago, and since that time the following three came out from Trumpeter and Fujimi, and I have built them.

Hope more of them come out soon.

A Leander would definitely be nice. I'm a big fan of the looks those ships have - I would also be happy with a 1:350 HMS Exeter/York. In general we have all the Graf Spee's, but what we need is the ships that fought the Graf Spee - The Leander Class (Ajax, Orion?) and York class Heavy cruisers - (Exeter) And I'm pretty sure Iron ShipWrights makes a Ajax, however I'm not going to bring $200 out of my pocket to buy it. And as a first time resin modeler, I don't think I would enjoy a larger resin kit. Smaller ships such as their YO/YW/YOG and USS PC-461 are more ideal, and, interesting ships that don't get a lot of credit for what they did. It would be a cool to see a smaller ship such as PC-461 in injection molded plastic... Which also brings up that my current model is in fact the USS PC-566, credited for sinking U-166, on 2014
