Painting Ship models correctly

One simple technique that makes a big difference on the appearance of a ship model is to paint all vertical surfaces using vertical strokes. On large surfaces such as the hull using either a brush or an airbrush make sure to use vertical strokes. Subtle variations in the thickness of your application and even variations of the paint color from the same bottle will make your model more realistic if painted using vertical strokes. Don't follow the curve of the bow and stern areas with your brush. Paint these areas vertically also. Also use this technique on all vertical surfaces of the superstructure. This simple technique will go a long way in making your model more realistic.

Good tip, and it was how I painted my LCS last week - made the weathering effect quite a bit more acceptable as well.
